Free Diving in Bali

 Hey everybody,

In feb I'm heading to bali for a relaxing trip away with a couple mates.

Have been keen on getting my free diving license for a while not and thought it could be the perfect opportiunity! If anyones had some experience or any advice it would be much appriciated :)

Cheers, and Merry Christmas!

Hi!

I just got back from Bali and did a basic course over there.

Matt Smythe from Apneista was recommended to me, so I got in contact and booked with him. I stayed with my family at Jemeluk Bay (~$40US for a bungalow, but plenty of other options there).

I found Matt's course great and his pals that are support divers are also really nice. The groups are small, so the training is very tailored. He is into yoga which really helps with the diving too.

Matt isn't affiliated with any of your regular diving outfits so no license is issued per se, but that crap is just stamp collecting WRT to freediving. With scuba, there is always something you can't do without the stamp; nitrox, deep or whatever, but with freedive, what are they going to do? Refuse to issue you a mask and snorkel ;)

I did a similar course in Aus recently and it was also good, but I did enjoy the Apneista one a little better. You can also get in touch on FB: https://www.facebook.com/apneista

Say hi from Jamie Moir ;)

Coming from NSW I am not

Coming from NSW I am not entirely familiar with every rule and reg here in WA. I have also been free-diving for enjoyment for 10+ years but do not know the outcome of a free-diving course. What I have learnt from this thread is it seems the course is not necessary but I'd better not ask out of fear of getting a mouthful. For christ's sake is an answer or comment without ridicule or sarcasm so hard...?

I think the comments may have been aimed at a serial "troll" or 2 on FW, not the OP.
