freshwater mussels

 hi guys, today i went to whitemans park and there was a small lake packed with freashwater mussels. so i brought 13 home, what type are they, what do they eat, is it hard to bread them and are they good eating?

Well first Ive heard of them buddy, Im not sure they will be healthy or not. Who knows what gets washed into there. Maybe try the internet search and see if you find some info on them. Maybe some Aboriginals might have used them as traditional food, maybe still do in locations around Perth. Might be good Bream bait too !

Those mussels are westralunio carteri and are a threatened mussel which you cannot take and will not breed in your tank, need running water and use native fish such as cobbler and nightfish to help them breed (transport their eggs and sperm). Been told they taste terrible and likely to be full of heavy metals, I would take them back aren't going to be much use
