Take my reel to a store after work to get new braid on, take it for a flick to realize the spool had been damaged in the machine. Two gauges out the top and now it won't cast! Line Getz all jammed up in the groove to say I'm angry is an understatement!

Thought you were guna say they spooled it the wrong way, bet thats happened before. Get back to the shop while your still agro
I am, as I've said, merely competent. But in an age of incompetence, that makes me extraordinary.

You pay good money for a reel
You pay good money for a reel and trust a "shop" to load new braid ? Be patient and do the job yourself or watch the shop person doing the re-spool. Always re-spool my own reels.

Yep always ask to be able to
Yep always ask to be able to watch them spooling your reels. Have known places before to get the amount of backing wrong on putting braid on reels and so end up with a fair bit of braid left over. But instead of taking it all off and reducing the backing they just cut it off, threw the excess out and didnt tell the buyer.
Its good that some places have their spooling machines in full view rather than out the back somewhere.

Had that happen to me
I got my stella 8000 filled with 300m of braid off a bulk spool before a trip. They said they could get it on accurately. After my trip during which I got down to the backing way too quick, a trip to an oval and guess what? 143m. Whatever. I never let that shop spool a reel again. Would always go Oceanside now, even though I live in Doubleview.

Iv spooled heaps of spinning
Iv spooled heaps of spinning reels on the machine at work now, got it down to an art form. If I think I haven't spooled it right I always respool it, better to make a customer wait a few extra mins than give them a craply spooled reel that will not cast properly.

Line Spooling
When spooling customers reels with braid in particular which need backing, We always do it the proper way of putting the braid on first than the mono to ensure that once we reverse it so the braid is back on top it will be perfectly flush with the lip of the spool.
In the case of your reel and how it has been damaged perhaps the spool has come loose from the machine? Not sure though hopefully the situation is resolved.

Yep the right way to do it.
Yep the right way to do it. Takes longer but you know you get it spot on everytime. I used to do it this way for customers too. Line winding machine is a must for doing this :-)

Don't know if there is a link
Don't know if there is a link here but we had 4 new reels spooled with new rainbow braid for our trip to False a coupla weeks ago.
Every reel the braid seemed to be overfilled to me anyway! Was near on overflowing past the spool lip.
Each of those reels had major "wind knot" issues and lost a few good lures as a result!
Not happy.
Other reels that were used in same conditions with same model rods, no "wind knots".
I watched them do part of the spooling and they did the process right as Ryan described above.

Got to ask the obvious - have you gone back and confronted them.

I did go back and had a few
I did go back and had a few very unsavoury words to say, didnt even utter an apology just an oh i didnt realize! didnt realize it has flown out the machine! being quite handy I fixed it myself just out of spite probably hahah but moral victories are sometimes the best! its casting fine now and a great little reel so a few battle scars wont hurt it!
any good spots for a river bash this week?
small twistys and hard plastics being the order of merit?
cheers for the support boys, id tell you who it was but I frankly dont care enough about there shop to use it again, and when i went in he was bulk buyign chinese copies of lures off ebay which put me off even more

Spill the beans!!
Yeah I'm up for a name and shame. Companies who rely on the public need to know that in this age of social media, forums etc, bad service spreads like wild fire so their service needs to be up to scratch!! Maybe it's a bit harsh but if they are providing a service it should be 100% quality!! If it's not it's at their peril.
Burley it and they will come.
