Thnaks for the post - great to have imgaes to discuss and learn by - the image quality on your 627 is really good.
I run a Furuno 587
In image number 1, on the left half of the screen ( bottom locked) there is clearly a strong fish echo just above the 8 and weaker echos above the 2's, but what does the spikey verticle lines attached tot he bottom echo the th right of the "dot" ( between the 28 and 2) signify?
I see this at time son my unit and I am not sure whether this is ground or fish. I thought that the surface of the ground will always be flat on bottom lock; but then I also thought that fish would be indicated as separate / apart from the bottom ( i.e. there should be a space between the fish echo and the bottom) - however I think I may not have the correct understanding of this.
Nice shot. Don't think that I have ever heard anyone complain about Furuno. ... can't wait for my transducers to arrive so I can install the 1100L that I bought last week.
Certainly the first pic with that red blob on top of the 8 is a signal that gets the heart pumping. There were heaps of dhuies on that spot that day so I confidently call them for dhuies. Having said that, we also caught pinkies from that lump that day.
I reckon the greenish spikes are fish and the "fuzzy" bottom to the right of the "2" indicates possibly some growth on the bottom???? I would call that reddish spikey line fish.
In pic 2 you can see a good show in between the 8 and 3 which I would also call "dhuies". Comes up clear on the main screen with red blobs. When you see them - drop the lines!!!
This spot is like an aquarium always with dhuies present plus plenty of KG's which hang off the lump. The other flare ups would probably consist of wrasse schools or other small schooling fish.
appreciate your comments there ctan1968. So by your reckoning the "fuzzy stuff" to the right may be ground cover - which would mean that the "bottom lock" feature would show the HARD ground as flat but any growth on the Hard ground would show as spikey stuff but contiguous with the flat line?
Maybe it's not just seaweed growth but could be rocky lumps sticking up more than the rest of the bottom. The majority of the signal would be reflecting off the lower area, but a small part of the signal is reflected off the higher rocks.

That seems right to me.
Anyone else care to comment on this?
