Fury 282 Centre Console '2009 WA boat of the year'

For those who made the trip down to the boat show, probably would have noticed the Fury 282 (28ft) Centre console won 2 awards this year.

WA 2009 Boat of the year and WA 2009 Innovative design awards.

Fury Custom boats and westbuilt are having an open demo day at point walter this weekend 10am - 3pm this Sunday for any who are interested.

I own a Fury 26 cc and can say they are very well built boats, and great quality. Have experianced quite a few different glass cc's and have not found one to perform aswell on the water as the Fury.

The 282 at the boat show looked sensational!!!! and is Locally built too..

Anyone interested go down for a look and have a chat to scott.

I saw the Fury, from a distance, looked not bad, want to see a decent Centre Console, take a look at what the Americans produce. Quality and class all come as standard, in fact their standard features, are Australian boat builder's, expensive options. The Trophy 25 C/C at the Avante Marine stand, I thought was value for money, extremely well finished and inside the console is full standing headroom and I am six feet tall. Another, the Boston Whaler, is in the same class as the Trophy.
Good for Fury to receive that Award, but its taken a long time for Austrailan Boat Builders, to reach that same level and standard of production.

You are right about that I have a US made Grady White if you go to the American sites they are in the same mold as Boston Whalers, and all had laid,I disagree with you about the Trophy, they are well made but do not have the same amount of glass in them they are considered a cheaper version, putting it this way Rolls Royce and Holden Statesmen, both nice, both comfortable but one excels at the quality, phone me and arrange to come and see mine,or ask Alfred to see his Boston Whaler, you will then see the deference between good sea handling boats and others.jersey 93099438

Jersey,

Thanks for the offer, but am also familiar with the Grady Whites, I used to read the American Sports Fishing Magazines and they were regularly featured and they always got glowing reviews. I concur, with your comment between a Rolls Royce and a Statesman.

Jersey

Prices usually range between 150k - 200k i believe for this model depending on the options you want.

I have been on a couple america CC's, Boston whaler, and blackwatch.. Both very nice boats.

Main differences i noticed,

1. Fury had higher sides, which it hink suits the australian waters a little more with the chop and swell we get.

2. both these CC's didnt have quite the level ride my Fury has (my opinion only).

3. Locally built, makes it easier for changes, repairs, warranty etc..

At the end of the day there isnt too much to compare, they are all very very good boats, not had much to do with whites.

the one at the boat show's top speed was 43knots, which i tought shows its a pretty well designed hull for 1 single 350 verardo, boat probably weighs 3.5 - 4 tonne. Its no racing hull, but still a very good design.

Cheers

Bodie,I have looked at the BWs and I find the free board is a little low,not a major concern as they are still very fine boats and ride exceptionally well, but if you are able to get a boat here in Perth for that matter, Australian made then excellent, and certainly ,if you got the Fury as shown at the Convention center, for between the 150/200,thousand I say you were getting one hell of a nice boat,I have a GradyWhite which is an excellent sea boat and has deeper gunnel, than the BWs and it did not cost as much but I have to sell and unfortunately, not many people in Perth are familiar with them, such is life jersey

Been clarified, boat actually weighs 3.5 tonne with tralier.

Only limited numbers of Fury's are built each year, which means quality would be more important than quantity.

Freeboard Measurement

Thu, 2009-08-20 13:41

Gday BodieMate what is the freeboard measurement for your Fury, do you know. I assume it would be the same as the new 282 ?? , I have to agree, that the BW's are a bit shallow in the freeboard, not hat i have a lot of experience with boats. The Fury's freeboard looks very very good.

The whaler is low, and they have even made lower ones. Scan down to "The TOPLESS or LO-PROFILE" on this page.

Freeboard isn't all good news though, if its too hi you can run out angle to work the rod.

I agree, that the Whaler is low, but dont forget, its essentially a tri hull. I will defy anybody that will capsize a trihull.
