gacoyne/kimberly pilbara

hi guys
we are getting married on the 22nd march next year and have decided to travel for 5 weeks up in the north of wa for the honeymoon. i have never ventured past carnarvon.
i have found 4 spots that take my fancy
1. bush bay, just south of carnarvon
2. whim creek
3. cape leveque
4. steep point (been here a couple of times)

can anyone suggest any other spots worth a stop at. we are keen anglers so would like to stay close to the coast.
my misses keeps reminding me this is our honeymoon not just a fishing trip but oh well you get that.

we have an off road camper trailer and are self sufficient on all aspects. we will be taking the tinnie as well.(if i can get a new motor in time)
cheers
Roddo

Got to include Ningaloo

The Ningaloo coast is spectacular and good fishing is available from a dinghy.  You Mrs would love the beaches too.

Port Smith

South of Broome. Sounds ideal with the camper and tin can.

Agree with Point Sampson. Great spot.

Whim Creek?? Pub for a beer absolutely, but otherwise I think I would pass. Balla Balla would be better.

Cleaverville just north of Karratha have good camping, fishing in the creek and outside if the weather is kind. Cyclones March possible for sure. If they head in or form move!!

Also hot man up this way for all the spots. I dont think the camper would have aircon, and March-April up here still hot as a oven and the nights too. Might not be good for matrimonial duties!!!!!

Cheers

Neels

Point Sampson is great.

Cleaverville you drive into and find a spot. Get there and you will see. Fees apply during the "Gray Nomad" period but the rest of the yr is free (I am sure, not certain). Keep to the left and you will find the creek and spot to launch the tin can.

The turn off is after Karratha about 15km before Roebourne

Port Smith is just south of Broome. About 200ks. Here is a link.

Hopes this helps buddy

Balla Balla/Whim creek

Tue, 2009-11-24 12:28

There are alot of lovely places to stay up there that offer great fishing but balla balla is a mangrove lined salt pan full of sand flies, don't get me wrong the place has truly exceptional fishing but not very attractive for the missus.

Coral coast and point samson as said, 80 mile beach is lovely as well and you will beat the grey army at that time of year cos it's hot, damn hot.

Balla has an awesome fresh

Tue, 2009-11-24 12:38

Balla has an awesome fresh water camp secion which is very popular, well away from all of the mangroves. There are areas with nice big trees for shade, and the fresh water rock pools. Very nice place to camp up and just a short drive down to the ramp

True, there you go.

I've only been there a couple of times and never noticed that area, we camped up right near the ramp and got thrashed by sandies.

Spewin we didn't know about the other area,  sounds nice!

I can second 80 Mile, but

Tue, 2009-11-24 13:24

I can second 80 Mile, but only for a few nights. Port Smith is beautiful, nice caravan park just out from the lagoon and a decent 20km dirt road off the highway. It would be the perfect spot for a tinny.
Otherwise book a room at Eco Beach if they are doing cheap rates still at that time of year, get them to launch your boat and fish offshore and the creeks.

Cape Keraudren

Sun, 2009-11-29 06:44

its just off the hwy at Pardoo aprox 200km nth of Pt Hedland. Great fishing off the rocks and also has a boat ramp. You need to watch the tide if boating but within saying that there is a channel that you can retreve from if you miss the tide but once again you need to be ready for it. Nice creek for swimming as well. Self contained but the roadhouse stocks most things. I wouldnt miss it if i was driving past it. Had a ball their with the kids when they were young.
