Glass boat repairs
Submitted by Bodie on Thu, 2011-08-11 14:55
Just wondering if anyone has done minor gel-coat repairs before?
Ive got a couple marks ont he boat (mainly ones there before i bought it) which I'd like to touch up.
Anyone know where you can get a small amount of Gel coat? i wouldnt need anymore than 500ml.
Also how to apply it?
The small spots that need repairing are only through the gelcoat not into the glass itself.
It is a white hull.
Cheers

It's easy as mate. Buy some
It's easy as mate. Buy some Flowcoat from Whitworths, or some paint places sell it.
Sand around the area you are going to repair.
Clean with acetone.
Give a few coats of flowcoat.
Sand back with some 800 - 1000 wet and dry
Buff (Cut)
Polish
All done

Kirkside industries great
Kirkside industries great service dont.t use flowcoat wrong viscosity and will chip out use gelcoat use a putty card to apply it and put clear tape over it to help form shape. Carefully wet,n,dry back cut and polish don,t rub to hard cause you will creat a blue ring around the edge don,t add to much catalyst either as it will set too quick and affect the colour as well if it is a new boat maybe get the boat builder to send some to you cause white gelcoats vary from product to product.
