GME fishfinder/ plotter problem

I have a GME  G-Combo fishinder/chartplotter combo, no more than 2 years old. Chartplotter and everything works fine but the fishfinder stopped  working not long ago.

When i use the fish finder all that appears are 3 question marks where the depth should be and a blank screen were the sonar reading should appear.

It still tells me the water temperature and SOG(speed over ground) so the transducer is still working just not getting a reading of whats underneath.

Any ideas on that the problem could be?

it still could be your transducer, it could also be the cable. check  your cable as it could possibly have a broken wire or 2 that control the transducer but not the SOG or temp. Is the transducer sitting correctly in the water so you get a signal back? Do you know anyone with the same sounder you can put your transducer on to try it out? Or possibly take it back to the shop you bought it from and see if they can hook it up to another box?

 The cable is an aftermarket

The cable is an aftermarket longer cable less than 2 months old which was working fine so im guessing its not that, and i have checked connections numerous times and nothing out of ordinary. The transducer is no different to when it was working like a dream a few weeks ago. Unfortunately i have never seen another one of these units in perth so unable to test it with another. Might just have to give the manufacturer a call and see if they have an idea.

Be interested in hearing how you got on with a solution to this. Currently on the Gascoyne coast and experiencing the same problem. Any solutions on offer?

Maybe battery

I had that same problem with my GME. Haven't used my tinny in 6 months. Took it out on sunday and forgot to charge the battery. I took the aux battery out of my 4x4 and put it in the tinny to get me going.  My mates driving my tinny (police took my licence, hence not using the boat) and he starts reading out the depth and describing the bottom structure. I scratched my head as I had given up on it and was in the market for a new one. The only thing that had changed was the battery. Check your batteries. They might struggle with a battery that is on its last legs. My old battery was able to start the motor and run the radio but maybe it didn't have the power required for the sonar/transducer.  I'd rather the outlay for a new battery over a new combo.
