Going to Coral Bay for Xmas, any suggestions please?

Hi guys, going for 2 weeks over xmas, went there about 6 years ago with minimal fishing gear but this time I'm abit more prepared.

Just wondering if anyone can suggest any good areas to fish/fish to target please? Im not looking for anyones secret spots, just some advice.

Ill be landbased with 4wd and will be set up for spinning & beach casting.

Thanks in advance!

Be prepared for wind!! Haha. Best bets for land based, head over to Mauds, berley up and see what happens, also down past 5 fingers is a pretty popular spot, and there have been a heap of squid hanging around the boat launch area. Take some gold and chrome twisties, on the right times/ tides they always create a bit of interest. We will be there for New Years with our new boat, hopefully see you at the filleting table!!

I'll be there for christmas too, landbased also. One spot that did ok for us (the one and only time ive been) was the sandbar to the north, mostly just small trevs and queenies but good fun on twisties. Might see ya up there

the last few years at Exxy and coral bay over Xmas has been HOT.

No mate should be fun and as mentioned mauds do well for mostly sports fishing, but still that is fun. Should be heaps of little trevs and quennies to play with (and queenie beer battered isnt bad fresh)

Sandbar prob the best

Wed, 2013-12-11 22:35

Sandbar prob the best landbased spot around Coral Bay, water is warming up so the queenys should be starting to get active if there is a bit of bait around.

Just make sure you let your tires down, a pratol lost it's clutch out there the other week and dug up track a bit in the process.

If you pop into the Coastal Adventure Tours office at the arcade they have good mud maps of the area that include the sandbar.

There has been the odd Spango caught off the rocks at the boat ramp, but not allowed to fish of jettys, but the rocks are ok.

But also like others have mentioned, five figers and just south of it and Mauds Landing also worth a go. Just try not to get filmed catching sharks there.

Big tides at the moment to so the couple of hours leading up to high tide shoud be active.

Of course I hear ther are some good charters up that way too................................
