Good Friday Whitehills Trip
Hello all,
I tagged along with some mates on a trip down to Whitehills on Good Friday, we left Perth around 2:30PM and headed down through Mandurah with four vehicles. We got to Whitehills around 4 and made our way onto the track, where at the beach entrance someone was being snatched out, so we all did the righty and dropped our tyres down before making our way onto the beach. There were many groups of people fishing, but after stopping at one or two spots we sent one vehicle ahead to scout out any further opportunities and within a km we had found a good spot. So we got all the vehicles in an started setting up for a nights fishing.
At first the swell was pumping and there was alot of weed around and not much being caught besides a solitary whiting and a herring to Benno. As the night wore on it dropped and was quite pleasant but still not a whole lot of fish. I was getting close to rolling out my swag and crashing when around 3am Dan got a Mulloway around 70cms. After seeing this I blissfully went to sleep to wake up in the morning and find the guys had landed 3 mulloway all around 70cms and a 52cm tailor within 45mins before it shut down again.
We got up around 8am to a few fuzzy heads before packing up and heading back around 10am.
Not a bad nights fishing in all.

Interestingly enough, my smart phone fishing almanac app shows the peak bite time to be coming on at 2.20am and finishing at 4.20 am. Seems to line up pretty well with your experience but it only shows as a 2 star day.
cheers

Good fishing
Wish people would read the signs and keep vehicles out of the dunes though, would like the beach to remain open to 4WDs

Seriously, so you were there that night?
When we arrived with the swell the high water mark was right up leaving very little room between the dunes and the track. High tide was not expected until 11pm that night so we fully expected it to come up higher. With other vehicles/quads going way to fast on the beach track noone wanted to stay on the beach between the dunes and track and we couldnt go the other side of the track because we all wanted to get our vehicles out again.
We found an access right next to our spot, all drove in a single convoy directly to our position, we had no campfire, most of our crew fished all night with only a swag rolled out for a few hours, no tents. We carted out our rubbish and whatever else was around on the beach and near our setup. We let our tyres down and stayed to a safe speed, no hooning. None of us live within an hour and a half of white hills and have no intention for the beach to be closed either, but it was an issue of practicality.
Final point, thanks for pointing out the signs, but after driving past nearly a hundred campsites well out into the dunes, with obvious campfires, dirt bikes, quads clearly set up for a full long weekend 'fishing' over hundred metres from the beach, maybe you might want to point that out to them rather than giving me the shits about one night in a swag on a beach I havent fished in over 5 years.

Not a d o- gooder
Just want white hills beach to remain accessible, yes there are lots of people that go into the dunes, not all of them post pics of the fact onhere, and I wish there were more I could do about people doing it but all I can do is have a rant every now and then. Tides, room only a swag left no rubbish, cleaned up others rubbish and havnt been fishing in 5 years are no excuses.

Collin G Wood thats almost a
Collin G Wood thats almost a good name except for the whole collingwood thing! but mate I totally agree. Regardless of the weather or the tides. People shouldnt be tearing the beach up on quads period nor hitting the dunes just because the conditions arent good. If the conditions arent good on a rock do you still go fish and camp there?
The problem is when people invade from elsewhere somethimes they get a little over excited. They might have travelled for miles to get there. So what happens if those of us who live here lose what we have because the authorites step in because some dipshit rolls there vehicle whilst pissed and fanging it up a dune or wrecking the vegetation. Dont worry I have been there and done the same thing climbed dunes etc, but evetually we realise its not the go.
So to those out there, who climb dunes for the fun of it, they are the worst. Understand sarcasmo was trying to escape a big swell (I also spent a day at whitehills that weekend whitehills and it was huge) but its these events that lead to carnage of the dunes and that is when the do gooders or fun police step in.
I would hate to not be able to take my kids to whitehills for a fish because one boxhead stuffed up.

Concern for the environment make you a dogooder?
Then I guess I must be a dogooder and proud of it...
Mate ive lived near there my whole life I know the area very well you ARE NOT ALLOWED IN THE DUNES It's not permissable at anytime. High water or not!!!!. It does not take a degree to see that driving into the dune system is causing extensive erosion. A group of us are trying to get all the access points to the dunes blocked off as at the Tims Thicket end. If the water was too high where you stopped I am certain that another close by spot would have had enough beach to stop on

.
White hills is currently open to 4WD vehicles, access via white hills rd or via Tim's thicket, headland between Tim's and white hills may not be passable depending on tide/ swell, you can drive all the way to preston on the beach if washouts are passable, but STAY OUT OF THE DUNES!!

fished there through the years
but always drove past that particular area because it has massive swell coming through and its wind erosion ,that causes the damage , yes at times it resembles tent city and suggest if your not happy about it get ranger involved , my fav. spot was the second fence.

Plenty of room
I went down there 2 weeks ago with 2 other vehicles and there was plenty of spots where you could camp on the beach for the night. There were some 40 - 50 vehicles on the beach with plenty of room to pass. Even at high tide. Just need to pick a spot.
One of the reasons the Wanneroo Council closed Dewars Track wqas due to illegal activity. Has now been reopenned but they will continue to monitor with zero tolarence.
Don't spoil it for the rest of us
I was surprised that given it was a long weekend that there were no rangers around.
