Hey Brad, a friend of mine

Mon, 2010-10-11 19:23

Hey Brad, a friend of mine has been using Ultima mono for a few months and it's been great. Just spooled my old 7000 up with some of it and it seems to be the goods. heres their site: http://www.ultima-aus.com/news.htm

Have also heard good things about Rovex HT mono cast.

its for my beach combo i use

Mon, 2010-10-11 19:23

its for my beach combo

i use a overhead with braid backing and about 250 mono topshot so it works out cheaper in the long run anyway as i only need to replace the top shot

just a question, why use

Mon, 2010-10-11 19:29

just a question, why use braid backing with 250m of topshot? virtually voids the use of the braid. is it heavy or lighyt beach combo? not much out there (cept rays, maybe sharks) that are gonna take more than 250 meters of line. but, back to the question. i use Stren Gold in 40lb for my heavy combo, and it has lasted me a long time. has a bit of memory in it though, unfortunately.

We top shot mono over braid

Mon, 2010-10-11 19:35

We top shot mono over braid to increase the capacity of our reels, and to give us stretch, abrasion resistance, and its alot more cost effective to just replace the top shot as needed instead of re spooling each time.

its on my heavy setup and

Mon, 2010-10-11 19:39

its on my heavy setup and allows me to have around 600m of line while still being able to cast the reel as its not so big otherwise i would have to use a reel like a tld25, even thought they are castable cannot get the distance needed also you can not slide bait with braid as you will get burnt off

Try throwing a 7oz grip lead

Mon, 2010-10-11 21:26

Try throwing a 7oz grip lead and a slab of tailor into a stiff south wester using an overhead reel spooled with braid all the way through... you would be asking for mono in secondsWink

hey mate, I fish the same

Mon, 2010-10-11 21:26

hey mate, I fish the same way with heavy mono top shot over braid backing. Used to use platypus platinum but just made the switch to low stretch. Cant really decide between them yet.

Plus for platinum is that its a tiny bit thinner, .55 vs .6 for 50lb

Plus for the low stretch I reckon the bimini ties a bit better in it, platinum sometimes gets a bit of line burn, dont know why its any different. Low stretch bimini actually turnes into a really nice knot with a good leader connection, so might be a winning factor for low stretch for me...

Second plus for low stretch is the colour... i like the visibility....

mate of mine paid top dollar

Tue, 2010-10-12 10:00

mate of mine paid top dollar for this mono, which is apparently better than braid. Stronger and thinner than braid. Will have to ask him about it..

I usually use Platypus

Tue, 2010-10-12 10:02

I usually use Platypus Premium but have been using a bit of Stren of late and that's not too bad.

Cheers
Dale
