I am going to be looking for a new rod and reel for my fishing up north.I am going to be chasing Gt's on poppers and floating mulies out the back of the boat .
The area will be Shark Bay/Exmouth .Price range will be up to $1500.
I already have a Catalina 6500H and rod for jigging. All idea's welcome

Lots of options for rods. Are you going to be popping mostly from a boat or LB? Also, you may be able to get away with a 'lighter' GT rod if you're not chasing absolute monsters with a 18k/PE12, which would make it more fun when floating mulies?
Also, do you need it quickly or not? (Lots of rods online or overseas)

I have twelve months of research ahead, all fishing will be from a boat unless it gets blown out and I head over to Steep Point.I am looking at the Saltiga Z 6000GT at the moment
no ideas about a rod at the moment..I wont touch any reel on ebay but I have dealt with a tackle store in the US before, but more likely to buy local so that I can feel them in my hands.

Stella SW10,000 size is the
Stella SW10,000 size is the goto reel size for GTs in my limited opinion. Only go for 18000 size or Saltiga 6500 if you are running pe10 plus, only required in a few locations and pretty hard work. PE12 would be good for pulling the anchor in, assuming you are built like a western Samoan front rower.

Get a new 2010 Saltiga 4500
Get a new 2010 Saltiga 4500 or Stella 10000SW and a Smith casting rod running PE5 :) Im sure you can find this outfit for around $1500 if you hunt around. Allboat seem to be really well priced with the Smith's so id just go there and perhaps get the reel online like I did :)

PE5 is a bit on the light
PE5 is a bit on the light side, even if it's 80lb. Better off with a 10000SW with a SOM 16000 spool and PE8. Saltiga Z 6000 GT is a bit of an out dated reel these days, capable, but better off with one of the newer options in my oppinion.

Agree with Jay, PE5 is just
Agree with Jay, PE5 is just too light - I think you really need to be able to grab the spool, and PE 5 snaps like cotton when you do that. Don't really need big heavy reels though, as line capacity is a non issue even with PE8. That keyholu is a nice rod, used to have one but don't do enough heavy popping so i sold it.

I would actually consider
I would actually consider using the Catlina you have for the popping reel. Being the high speed it is not as suited to jigging as you have it set up. Fine for bottom fishing with bait but a little tough when jigging.
Since it's double use mayb e instead of the T curve GT special you could mathc the reel to the T curve 15-24 kilo bluewater spin. It will do both jobs nicely.
Then you can shout yourself a new jigging reel instead!!
Otherwise a big thumbs up for the Stella 10000SW. I have one and it's great.

catalina
The catalina 6500 only comes in a low speed version, which is in the low 4s.
Therefore good jigging but not so for popping. However if I'm wrong my apologies.
The saltiga 5000h could be another option

I have a Ripplefisher
I have a Ripplefisher Infinity 80 that I would let go of if you are keen on that.
RRP is over $1050+, I'd let it go for $650. Have used it once for a few hours off exmouth landbased, and got no fish on it. Is in immaculate condition
Selling only due to planned carpenter purchase :-)
When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:
n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or
n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.
