halco laser pro 160 xdd 6m - proper towing point - ex halco marketing manager
Submitted by randall df223 on Thu, 2012-02-16 18:09
My search function doesn't appear to be working so i hope i am not repeating something that has already been covered.
i have purchased a halco laser pro 160 xdd 6m, and i have just noticed that it has two towing rings, one on the front of the hard body, and one in the middle of the bib. the latter looks to me to a) not be a strong enough point to withstand a big mackie, and b) wouldn't get the lure as deep. and i suspect the former would be hard wired to the hooks in the middle and the tail of the lure. this all confuses me as to why there is a towing point in the middle of the bib at all.
any ideas, suggestions? will be trolling for macks and tuna around monkey mia and steep point.

would tow off the main body
would tow off the main body loop, the bib looks like a casting retrieve point maybe to impart more action?

Maybe tie to the main ring on
Maybe tie to the main ring on the nose of the lure but then run your line through the split ring on the bib?

that crossed my mind but then i thought that's just going to make it swim shallower? i like the idea of just ignoring the front towing point. makes sense. dont know why the other is there

I always tow mine off the
I always tow mine off the body rather than the bib.
However its a good question, might even warrant an email to Halco...

Hi Randall Thank you for your email. The tow point in the bib with the split ring is the only correct tow point for that model. The identical bodies are used for all the LP160 models - STD, DD and XDD hence the tow point in the body which is used for the STD and DD models. The tow point on the body will not work well at all with that bib. Not even the biggest mackerel is likely to do any damage there, in fact the biggest fish I know caught so far on it is a 94kg Southern Bluefin last year. In our experience, most bibs are broken while subduing the Mackerel in the boat rather than the fish itself. Trusting this answers your questions.Best Wishes

if your going to tow off the
if your going to tow off the body, make sure you remove the split ring off the bib. i know it sounds crazy to mention this but i have seen it done with the ring in and they complained the lure wasnt swimming right

heres a thought
What if the point on the bib is the main point and the one on the body is left over from the manufacturing proccess like to hang up after painting? or even the main point for a bibless type lure,
