Handheld VHF radio GME GX600 Problems
Submitted by JohnF on Mon, 2011-07-04 11:22
Hi guys
I am having some dramas with my GME600 VHF radio, can send OK, but having problems receiving. Installed a new aerial but still an issue. Does anyone have a hand held VHF I can borrow for a few days so I can do some testing on land to try and sort it out, I am in Hillarys.
Cheers
John

Gme peices of shit.
I'll bet your speaker in the "waterproof" VHF unit is stuffed mate. You can get replacements for about $20, but I'll have to find out where for you.

Squelch
Have you tried adjusting the squelch. On your model will be button sql. From memory press button and use arrow buttons to reduce. This is common error when setting up radio.
If out this weekend and you see the rescue boys in the marina they can have a look and test it for you. They will be happy to assist.

Yep, tried the squelch,
Yep, tried the squelch, reasonably basic fucntion that anyone with a radio shoudl know how to use, but good suggestion, as I would guess a lot of people may not be aware of its fuction.
The radio sends messages clearly (I have spoken with Whitfords Sea Rescue by phone and they say they are recieving me load and clear) but I get fairly poor reception and need to basically turn the squelch right off so I have all the background noise). The unit used to operate perfectly.
I have tried a different aerial, and different cable to the aerial.....so it must now be the unit.
The speaker works as on 0 squelch it is very loud......so not sure it is the speaker?
Hmmmmm, not that keen on forking out another $250 for a new one if this has a problem I can fix.......
