HELP!!!!!! Etec motors

 Hi All,

First up, apologies for posting this in this forum, but would love a quick reply. May have stuffed up, sold a 24ft Wellcraft little while ago, have been searching ever since for an ally walkaround. Found one, racked out our savings to fly up, went for a whip, paid a deposit, and agreed on a price pending a motor check. Got check today and I'm pretty committed to delivery next week.

I love the boat, mrs and little dude adore it but the 2009 300 etec has come back with a heap of errors, temp and shift switch malfunction. I need to speak to an E-Tec dude/chick tomorrow. I live Sth metro, any suggestions??

Any help would be appreciated.

Ben

lot of problems

Fri, 2014-07-25 05:02

those high horsepower etecs are well known for having a lot of injector problems and powerhead failures. I would find out how much it is worth as a trade in then factor that into the price of the boat. That being said some people have a good run out of them with no problems but not one of there best motors   cheers ACE

Jump on etec forum and do a search or even ask a question, don't rely on stupid advice from a mate who knows a mate about any brand of motor. Many motors have sensor faults, but it is the reason you need to find out - ask a reliable dealer to explain your service results

Remember the number one rule

Fri, 2014-07-25 16:58

After having your motor repaired serviced etc: make sure you do an after service/repair run in the boat before heading out wide. If the motor is going to give up on you then after a service is the most likely time.
I couldn't tell you how many times I've heard people say the motor was running great until it was service and then had it give up on them when they have headed out on a decent trip.

Don't worry about the over temps

Fri, 2014-07-25 19:21

I have a 250 and every service they clear the overtemps as they register on start up as sensor is realy sensivetive as for shift switch functions they can come if there is play in your throttle lever all you need to do is adjust the cable, get it checked out anyway but the 300 is nearly unbrakeable

 Be careful with chivers only

Sat, 2014-07-26 00:11

Be careful with chivers only time I dealt with them about 3 years ago purchased a new 100hp motor , they told me that many lies to get the deal, I wouldnt take it back there for service, and wont deal with them at all !

They told me and I have witness

We have rebalanced trailer to suit weight of new motor , fail ,took it of car at home it nearly stood on its end , fixed it ourselves

We have shimmed hydraulics  so motor wont touch transom , fail

Included in price is a yamaha outboard cover, fail , had to buy one from ebay not from them .

The propellor is stainless steel , fail .

Brett ward compared to them was an absolute dream to deal with no bullshit and an excellent job in fitting new df115 and electrics to my new 25ft6 centre console  , he is extremely busy though !

380hrs is nothing, for an 09 motor, just like anything valuable, treat it with respect and care, and it should last forever.
