Help with twin fishfinder setup, please
Hi guys
I'm currently running a Furuno FCV620 sounder alongside an HDS 8m plotter in the Trailblazer and as part of the planning process for a Kimberley boat trip, I'm interested in running a backup sounder & plotter from the runabout....an HDS 5x and a Northstar Explorer 567.
I'm worried about the potential for interference that could occur if I mount the Lowrance transducer next the Furuno transducer on the transom....or would their only be interference if I ran both units powered up at the same time.
I suppose the other option would be to mount the Lowrance transducer on the other side of the transom....although there's no mounting plate installed there; not that it's a big job to get a mounting plate added.
Does anyone currently run more than 1 sounder in their boat and how have you step them up? Your thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Am in same situation Rusty
Asked same question a few weeks ago in this forum so check out some of the responses .
I just installed new stand alone sounder and intend using combo sounder as back up on my trailblazer. Did it on the weekend and have put both transducers (600w standard and a new 1kw ) on the mounting plate next to each other.
Havent tested it as yet but will let you know how I go when I get opportunity to get out.

Thanks for your comments.
I look forward to hearing how your twin set up goes, HH. Can you post a report & include a couple of pics of your transducer setup, thanks.

Hey Rusty
Chucked a couple photos on but dont know 100% how to attach them and have to shoot off.
Am going to be testing it out tomorrow (hopefully) so will let you know how I go with interference, rooster tail etc.

Hi HH
I saw a picture on here today under Random Images, top right of the page and it showed 2 transducers mounted side by side....looked ok and fingers crossed they both work together ok.
If you can't load the photos on this thread, it might be quicker to start a new one and upload your photos and report there.
I certainly hope it all goes well tomorrow.

hey rusty
Was in rush getting the images on.
Took the boat out on Saturday . Thought I would take my boys out for a run and teach them how to drive boat and get a feed of whiting at the same time. No fun just putting about .
Everything worked fine to my suprise.
Was expecting interference but both sounders worked fine with the transducers side by side. No interference, no drop out,no dramas at any speed. No rooster trail either (which I was expecting). All speeds picked up well (got around the 35kn mark).
The one thing I did do was run the cable from the transducer to the front of the bost under the gunnell in a ali tube seperately from the other cables. 20mm tube about 2mm thick. Maybe overkill but i wanted to make sure I didnt get interference from the other power lines/transd cable.
If you are wanting to stop by and have a look , more than happy to show you over a beer. I am NOR in Carine.Otherwise pm me your email and I can send some pics through.
Cheers
