Hillarys boat harbour

Just joined the forum so this is my first post. New to the perth area aswell. Was out fishing on the hillarys rock wall around 7 pm on thursday night hoping to catch a tailor. Was using mullies with a triple ganged wire trace pulley set up size 4/0 hooks. Ended up catching a 7 kg ray just as the sun was coming down. Put up a great fight , hopefully catch a tailor next time but cant complain. Does anyone else fish that area with any luck? Cheers

One guy here has been getting tailor off the north wall...all I got the other day were two bitty tarwhine and a trumpeter...did see huge schools of herring and mullet...plus an sizeable looking dark shape cruising just in front of my offerings, completely ignoring it.

Oh and welcome to the forum.

Hi Justin, I am a regular

 Hi Justin,

I am a regular down at the boat harbour and depending on what i am fishing for depends on where I go.

For Tailor:

Park behind AQWA and walk all the way to the end of the rock wall to the point, from there cast from the point into where the water changed from the chop to the calm (due to the rockwall and the marina) This is where I have had most luck with Tailor, some nights you can pull in 4 without even blinking, other nights you are lucky to get 1. I have been there when they have been schooling however and every cast there is a Tailor on the line whether you are using bait or lure.

For Herring:

For me, herring fishing is still great fun on super super light gear. For this drive around to the north side and park an Spinnakers. Walk to the light house, burley up for 5 minutes and you will no doubt have a good time. The herring can get to pretty good size there too which is suprising. (and in huge numbers)

Have fun!!!

On an P.s. If you ever see people catching undersize pinkies, or over their limit for Tailor at that rockwall please report them. It is becoming a very serious matter and one that I am not going to stand for. Fish need to be there for my kids when they grow up, not for the b@stards dinner that night if they are undersize.
