Investment

Its a bit of an investment to start off with but will soon pay for itself with the savings you will make, especially if you drink spirits. You will find it costs approx $15 -$20 to make 10 litres of alcohol @ 40% then depending on what essence you add to it anywhere between $3 and $10 a litre .

If you want to be an expert, there are extras to fine tune your end product to whatever taste or brand you prefer.

Beer

With a bit investment beer is cheap as chips to make yourself! Me and a mate been doing it for while. The hardest thing we have found is finding enough bottles/stubbies to meet needs. We use brew improvers and good brews- it ends being about 40c a stubbie. Coopers lager & maltrose is the cheapest brew you can do and thats about 20c a stubbie!

Get yourself a keg and gas

Get yourself a keg and gas line setup. Brews a top quality beer, pours straight from the tap and is so much more time efficient. Will cost more to get set up but is well worth it in the long run for sure.

I'm trying to do my own set

I'm trying to do my own set up too, mainly for spirits :) Though trying to find cheap stainless steel or copper parts is is real pain, it's going to be a case of invest now to save later. I'm using a 2nd hand keg as a boiler, got one off Gumtree for about $50, cheaper than buying a large stainless steel pot.

I've found this website pretty handy aussiedistiller.com.au/portal.php. There's some pretty impressive set ups there.

Also, you might want to give

Also, you might want to give Gumtree a go first, there was someone in Perth selling a stainless steel reflux still for under $100. Would've saved me a bundle if i've gone for it. Might have to give it a good flush and clean though.
