We caught about a dozen
We caught about a dozen herring on Saturday near carnac. put some burley pellets out with some whale oil then start casting out little 15g lures. I use the silver bait fish looking ones. I've found the key to landing herring is not to lift the fish out but instead use a net whilst the fish is still in the water as their mouths are too soft.

Go get a bag of pollard from tackle shop, a packet of
coral prawns and a packet of baitchaser prerigged hooks ( you get about 6 all rigged with a small green bead) Add water slowly to half a bucket of pollard keep stirring and squeazing between your fingers till it starts to clump together so you can pack a handfull of it into a burley cage dont add too much water it will go sloppy and wont stay in burley cage if mix too sloppy obviously just add more dry pollard till it is the right consistency. Before you start fishing throw a few big handfuls of mixed pollard out as far as you can in front of you in a few different directions to burley up the water. Use two baitchaser hooks about 1metre below the burley cage put a small piece of shelled prawn on hooks about say 1cm wide pack as much burley into the cage that you can throw out and slowly wind it in. Takes time for the fish to come around the burley and when they do you usually catch two at a time

Use the baitchaser hook rig
the hooks are brightly coloured thats whatt attracts the fish and the hooks are extremely sharp ask the guy in the tackle shop what size to use for herring the rigs are only a few bucks to buy and fish find them hard to resist.

Another rig to consider is a blob (with or without burley hole) or burley cage, 50cm of leader, length of lumo tube or even standard drinking straw, finally your long shank hook.

Try
Try fishing inside mariners in freamantle etc use a bit of tuna oil and burley just on sunset and about 1 hour after dark put a glowstick under a float then have about 20cm of 10lb leader going to a hook with a cube of mullie on it and just watch the float when it goes infer or moves rapidly strike very gently doing this will also produce tailor and snook good luck
wont catch em sitting at home!

easy ..
burley cage with float inside, i pull 25% of the float off with pliers to let it gently sink. pollard with little oil and a handful of flour to stiffen it a bit. 2 to 3ft 10lb mono trace to a size 5 suicide hook and some prawn ( maggot best).
Any marina through ocean reef seems to do real well or local beach near some reef. early morning. good luck.
