How to make Sea Lion Exclusion Devices oh and ballast recommendations?
Submitted by till on Tue, 2009-01-06 07:24
Hi,
I've borrowed a few pots for a trip to Cervantes, and in that region I need to fit SLEDs, any advice on how to easily make these?
Also, where to get those railway sleeper plates for ballast?
TIA,
till

We had to get them for Leeman, Bob went to Fisheries in Freo and we were lucky to get 4 Plus the ball. When he went to Fisheries & got the bolts, they give you a ball & that gives the correct dimensions etc, so it might pay to give your nearest Fisheries office a visit.
Cos once the bolt( sled) has been fitted you get the ball and in the neck of the pot (ours plastic) it represents the seal pups head and they can't go in. The pros in Leeman reckons it helps to keep the crays in especially when they go deep.
In your phamphlet that came with your cray license it states, you can get the Sleds Device brochure on the Fisheries website, I assume with correct length/height etc.
Hope I've explained it ok for you

So fisheries provided the sled and I just need to get one from them? I spoke to someone on the phone and they said they had a ball (for testing) but nothing else.
