Hunting

Been getting into a bit of shooting/hunting in the past 12 months or so. Anyone else on here do any?

Haven't tried them yet Brad but made a nice batch of spicy snags with part of the bull's rump.

Camel

Thu, 2010-10-07 18:24

Was speaking to an old mate who used to shoot camels and cut the hump off to dice up as 1080 baits for dingos, he said that you had to cut it while it was fresh or it would go rock hard, made me wonder if you could mould it in to a lure shape with stainless wire down the centre for the hooks.

Donkey

The donkey is about as big as my old Lithgow hornet would stop. A good feed off all of them to be had.

Just like fishing

Thu, 2010-10-07 17:57

One rod or reel is never enough, nor is one rifle. Just added a 30/06 to the collection, does the business on the bigger stuff alright.

Hi John, We shoot wild boar

Thu, 2010-10-07 18:04

Hi John,

We shoot wild boar here too, mostly with shotguns and dogs as the jungle is just too thick. They're overruning the place because of the ample palm oil fruit.

Maybe the next time you drop by.

Jeeeeezus killing the pig

Thu, 2010-10-07 20:08

Jeeeeezus killing the pig BJ.. i mean camel ahhh..... donkey ummm..... cow :-)

Looks like you are having a bit of fun and an interesting menu along the way.  A mate of mine used to shoot with the old style powder, packing home made lead type bullets stuff way way inland from Kalbarri (gascoyne junction area) for goats along with bows.

Love to eat baby goat, leaves lamb for dead. On the way back up here there were millions of the bloody things, makes me wonder why the farmers don't get onto it and sell em to the middle east.

Cheers

Mullows

I think a lot of stations down that way are rounding them up and selling them Mullows. Haven't tried to get access down that way yet but I believe its very hard to find a station manager who sees them as feral pests these days.

John is correct about rounding up the feral goats, usually once a year. The trouble they have is the older/bigger one are not saleable over a certain weight so they just release them after sorting out the smaller ones.

On our last sea rescue sundowner we had goat as the main course and as usual it was bloody beautiful.

Nice work there John. Used to Love pig hunting when i was up in Darwin, but alas since moving back to perth still have all the hardware but no properties to go on. If you ever want a shooting buddy would love to come along. I did once do a trip uo to Northhampton gooing after all the pigs that get into the grain, but that wasnt very exciting as it seemed the method was either to spotlight or sit on the fence line with the national park and ambush.

nice to see a few hunting

Thu, 2010-10-07 20:46

nice to see a few hunting pics there. I haven't been shooting for years and never chased anything bigger than cats, foxes and rabbits.
I was given a bag of camel steaks from the Nullarbor last year and they were pretty tasty, also had a roast wombat rump which was quite good too. I reckon you'd struggle to tell the diff between roast wombat and roast beef.

Keep the pics coming
