important information for those writting, and those signing petitions

guys, after reading some of the "petitions" being put forward by a few guys, who are obviously passionate about their fishing, i think its important to bring this link below into the spot light. petitions have to be written to a specific format to even get a look at by the government... and the slightest thing wrong, will make it non compliant ( useless ).  for example, at the end of a submission, it must contain a prayer!!!

DO YOURSELF A FAVOUR, AND READ IT !!!!!!

http://www.parliament.wa.gov.au/web/newwebparl.nsf/iframewebpages/Legislative+Council+-+Petitions

I would consider making a better "cover letter" explaining your dismay, in a clear concise manner, without abuse or rudeness ( because if its rude, or abusive, it will not get a look in imo !  except for the bin..).  rec fisho's need to be taken seriously, and reading the petition text in the ones going around, quite frankly, they dont cut the mustard!

to be written corecctly, it should be done over a few days, to make sure things are done right. NOT DONE IN THE HEAT OF THE MOMENT LIKE THE CURRENT CROP OF PETITIONS DOING THE ROUNDS.

you should also have a seperate letter/ guidlines page for people who are going to sign the petition, have to read first . in that you should include a few tips on ways to say things, some suggestions, without ending up giving bias info. let people speak their own minds, without being rude.

on the subject of being rude,  the amount of foul language on some of the comments within the petition, would render half the signatures wasted, unless you like sending in insults?? and again, if i recieved it, it would go straight in the bin.....i would strongly recomend you advising people against such language.

think about what you guys are saying, be polite, and clear in what you want to get across. take your time, and hear is a idea ----- actually read some info on the matter !

then, maybe a better result will come about from it all. becasue at the moment, i see good intentions, but i doubt you will get a good result from handing in things like this.

If you are so clever as you say you are, why give out advice to everyone, and do something yourself, weather we are educated to high school education or not, it is   none of y9our god dam business and i am spelling this wrong just to piss you off, you are an ameba on fly feouses, do yu know what that is, that is the smalles t piece of crap possible.

We are passionate about our fishing, not about nit picking people errors, why not use your time more productivly and do your own petition, otherwise, stop criticising others, i am sure there are things i know about that you know nothing about, and i could wipe the floor with you.l

grow up

no need to get narky

Tue, 2009-07-07 22:23

all he is trying to say is that the submissions that do not meet the criteria WILL be ignored as the government has strict criteria as to what they will consider. yes it is pedantic but nothing will happen if our voices arent even considered.

i swear a hell of a lot, but when it comes to correspondence with these types of bureaucrats language must be toned down, and must also be formalised and well structured for your thoughts to be considered.

there is not mention of how educated anybody is, and who cares...we are all not happy with the goverment changes to fisheries regulations so why not actually create feedback that the penpushers in DoF will actually consider.

READ THE LINK joe atomo

Wed, 2009-07-08 00:05

ok...lets be nice  :)

gumby, i dont know why, but thats the facts mate, and its missing silly little things like this, which will make it useless..... have a read of the link!!!

 onto joe, the firey one

firstly joe, did you read the link??? because if you did, you would see that it was posted to assist you. so it would seem not

i wasnt rude in this thread to anybody, just pointing out the facts. hell if you want to waste your time, and everybody else's time..keep doing what your doing.

at no time have i said "how clever i am".

as for what i am doing, thats laughable! i am reading the facts buddy...not living in dreamland like some. and when i have the facts, i will be writting my own letter for the minister to read.  ( if you like i can post it up for you to use after Wink  )

tell me, how many papers have you read on the matter?? and i bet i could put money on you doing nothing the last few times rec fishers have had a chance to have their say... ie the proposals the last government put forward last year..and the others before that.

to me, it seems your jumping on the band wagon, starting yet another petition ... maybe trying to make yourself look good?? ( which wont count for jack squat! because you wont pull your head out your own arse)   who knows.

as for wiping the floor with your knowledge...mate i wouldnt wipe my arse with your "petition", its a embarrasment to rec fisho's and something i wouldnt want anything to do with.

sorry if this offends anybody else, but jeez...isnt a petition about being heard? and if its not done right...IT WONT GET A LOOK IN !!!  why waste your time and effort if you dont get it right???

Number one, you did comment on my educational status, instead of being helpful you had to put people down, but if that makes you feel better then fine, i did my best, i did another one to satisfy people like you who say i am not educated, and did it in line with the link, THAT YOU PROVIDED in such a narky manner.

I dont live in dreamland, i live in reality, and if Jack Squat thinks it means nothing then fine, (and by the way i do know jack squat is not a person) i have the right to be heard just like you, the manner in which you approach people is not of a helpful nature.

Isnt fishwrecked about people having their say no matter what,
First you defame me by saying i am a high school drop out,
and now you keep going, as for being fiery, fine think what you like, i stand up for myself and for anyone else that wants me to, stop throwing stones at glass houses, as you yourself one day may need help from a so called high school drop out.

If you can do better, then do so, i am happy with what i have done, i am trying to make the future better for my son and his generations.

So i shall end this now, as you said it has to be ended with prayer.

GOD BLESS YOU OFFROADER
MAY GOD BE WITH YOU
AND MAY ALL YOUR SINS BE FORGIVEN.

Voice in numbers

I am not sure I ever followed any rules or offered a prayer when I voiced my opinion to local polititians etc. Showing some respect like as in "with respect Minister" your a fuggin idiot. Shame on you! LOL. The odd egg has worked well at times also. Seriously though, public comment happens before outrageous decisions are made. Public outcry happens in all shapes and forms and from all parts of society in differing ways. I don't really give a rats about protocol because I don't really think that after a decision has been made, a process exists that will change things other than humiliation.

offroad fisher

Great informative first post in this thread. Keep up the good work. Some people appreciate it.

Anyone else

The anti recreational fishing people just love it when recreational fishermen argue amongst themselves over trivial details and waste their time and energy fighting each other instead of dealing with the real problems.

FACT:-

If petitions are going to be read by Parliament, they have made rules that petitions MUST be in a format that the Parliament will accept.

If people don't put petitions in the right format they are just wasting everyone's time, and they are misleading the people who sign, because their signature and comments will be thrown away by Parliament.

Damn reality, why can't it cooperate and be what people want it to be?.

This is so true.  If you do not follow the format, it will simply get thrown in the bin.

I work for a company which has similar rules for new job applications.  Doesn't matter if you are Bill Gates or if you've worked for the company for 15yrs, if you do not follow their set job app format, it will be rejected.

Got to jump through the hoops if you're not the person in charge cracking the whip!

so it would seem that currently, you are living in dreamland as you put it, because you cant wake up and see the facts written infront of you!!!

all these "petitions"

Wed, 2009-07-08 17:06

are a waste of time and effort - the horse has bolted. And for all the hoohaa about voting out Labour and getting the Libs in, fat lot of good that did if you thought they'd be a softer touch. And if come election time you vote Labour back in, do you think things will change? Not a chance. Our fish stocks are declining and something needs to happen. Too many years of nothing and eventually the system was gonna need a knee jerk change - and welcome to the knee jerk, it has arrived.

And for the record, I'd be embarassed to have my name associated with pretty much every petition I have read here on FW, and I assume I am not alone on that point.

Boys, i read this with

Wed, 2009-07-08 17:40

Boys, i read this with interest.  They were talking about doing this in england and it came to nothing in the end.  Our fish stocks have been decimated by over fishing in trawlers us, spanish, french and whoever else.  You need something to change to ensure the future of stocks and species.  every time i've been over to OZ i have been impreseed by the quality of the fishing and the way it has been organised.  I hope that the right choice is made as it would be a shame to lose such a good resoiurce for locals and travellers alike.  I look forward to my trips abroad!  If the money is put to the proper use then it cant be a bad thing can it?  I pay through the teeth for fishing freshwater lakes in the uk and if the lake is good then the money is worth it.  i dont know all the ins and outs of your situation but it seems to me it needs careful thought.  Sorry for getting involved as its not really my argument.  Looking forward to meeting some of you in a few weeks.!!

Sadly we are just catching

Wed, 2009-07-08 19:52

Sadly we are just catching up to the rest of the world.

We have decimated our fish stocks, so the government is stepping in by collecting revenue from fishermen to sustain what fish stocks we have left.

We had it too good for too long, and too many bad apples and mismanagement have ruined it for future generations.

Thu, 2009-07-09 09:31

i find it disappointing to see that adam gallash's comment has been removed. not only that, but my reply and question to him has also been removed. so again adam, i ask you, where do you stand in all of this? it is quiet strange that a owner of a fishing website hasnt made any comment on such a contraversial matter.

Adam probably does have a point of view, so leave it with him.

Sounds like you are into harassing people.

Give him the privacy that you would deserve mate.

thats a fair enough comment

Thu, 2009-07-09 09:48

thats a fair enough comment stoinka.

however, after seeing adam basically saying something like we dont help ourselves, and posting how many hits from fisheries the site made in the last 5 minute period, i simply replied that at least they knew they had stirred the honey pot. i then asked where he stood on the matter , and said i found it curious he hadnt made any other comment expect for that one.

for that to be deleted is piss weak...end of story, as it would seem he likes to make comments, then pretend he didnt make them by removing any eveidence.

Ease off boys

Thu, 2009-07-09 10:32

As a Fisheries employee Adam rarely comments on these types of threads. Its not because he is being "piss weak" its for a very good reason.

Any comment made was probably to keep the thread on track whilst the other slack moderators were watching the cricket Wink, rather than to state any personal view. Once achieved it was deleted...no biggie.

I suggest you bait elsewhere offroad fisher, as you won;t get a bite from Adam.

Better than an exclusion

Thu, 2009-07-09 10:42

zone from Eucla to the NT border. I object to giving the grasping buggers more money that will in all probibility not end up where they say it will but will pay it as at the end of the day i won't have a choice other than risking a fine. The problem i see is that in a year or two they will introduce exclusion zones before any research is even started.
