Jigging for Rosies, Goldband and Robbos sea bream

Fishing off Exmouth in May in about 60-80 metres of water. Can I jig for the above species. Has anyone tried and had success. And if so, what type of jigs, weight etc. Dropping a bait, losing it, and then lifting a big lump of lead off the bottom is tiresome.

On the right track

When I posted i thought i was a bit keen with the depth. But we do go into 100m and we do get goldband and rosies, and any fishing, any day, is better than a day in the office, or watching friends on the box. But friends with benefits is good also . Just looked at the price, phew. Any other ideas. What weight am I looking at.

Should be able to jig up a few other species at that depth. Rankins are always a sucker for a slowly worked jig. I was using around 150g jigs last year in the 70m-120m on a good day. Just buy cheap jigs because you'll loose a shit load.

Absolutely you can target those species and more. Using jigs like vexed double bases and Woofers work well for cheaper style jigs. Other more up market jigs do work well though can hit the pocket when snipped by mackies and sharks. Jig weights will range between 150-300g dependant on depth.

Stick with baits. 60-80 m mark is more your red emps, spanglies, rankin and robbos range. And out of those I've found only the rankins love the artificials. 60 m is relatively piss easy to wind up big lumps of lead

Ha ha "Here dear, I'll wind up that pesky heavy lead for you". If you can't wind up 12oz of lead then how are you gonna go when you get a 10kg fish on.

Jigging will make you stuffed way faster than putting a bait down. just gotta hope a wanted species takes it first.

Drop down, catch a fish, wind up, have a beer, drop down, catch a fish, wind up, have a beer. Bloody boring this drinking game.  But life goes on. Drop down, catch a red, drop down again, catch a goldie. When does it stop.
