jurien bay report

myself and a couple of mates decided to head up to jurien for the weekend to do a bit of landbased fishing.

on the first night we decided to fish the jetty, had balloons out but none were taken and didn't manage any tailor only one hook up which was a white spotted shovel nose which was about 130cm.

on the second day we fished the beach north of the marina, we only picked up a couple of whiting and heaps of dart, that night we fished the jetty still didn't manage any tailor, although a small mackerel about 60cm was caught. we had 5 big hookups on the big outfits with all of them busting off.

the 3rd night we fished the south rock of the marina. we managed a couple of tailor to about 45cm. heaps of small mulloway and one big one just before sunset, caught by tom (spooledagain). we also managed a small eagle ray that night.

in the end it was quite a good weekend even though the fishing wasn't as hot as we hoped.

and is anyone able to identify the fish in the 3rd picture?

looks a bit like a black snapper (blue lined emperor ). there is another emp that look similar but cant think of the name. sounds like you guys had a good weekend. them fish that busted you off could have been some of the local xos sambo's that tend to hang around in close at night up there.better luck on the fish front next time but its still fun just getting away with a few mates

Not as good as u hoped,? Thats a great haul, was it windy up there coz when i went up it was blowing strong SW, made it almost impossible to fish and there was huge amounts of seaweed which made it very frustratin, what makes it real good is that all the fish caught are quality fish,

Normal shovel-nose I'd

Normal shovel-nose I'd normally release, but yeh theres are worth keeping. Prob is they are a pain to fillet and very minimal viable flesh come from them.
