Kalbarri

 Hi guys.

We're looking at going up to Kalbarri in June.  Mainly land based (no 4WD), but maybe access to kayaks or a dinghy.

Looking at getting across the other side of the river, to try for tailor off Oyster reef, and also fishing the river for Bream, Whiting, Jacks, and hopefully Mulloway and Giant Herring.

Can anyone offer any advice about fishing Kalbarri that time of year, chasing those species.

Also keen on bringing the crab nets up, has anyone fished of the new wharf?  How far above the water is it?

Cheers.

TJ

Haven't been in June for a while.  We usually go in October (school holidays). Tailor are a bit quiet at that time.  Sometimes see Snapper off the rocks at red bluff, and mulloway near the mouth of the river.  Bream around the boat moorings and whiting off the sand bar up the river a bit.  There are heaps of mullet in the river so theres probably a predator. 've always had a good day on either of the charters.  Reef walker or seasport, although You see heaps of undersize snapper, I don't know if that is because of the time of the year.

we always love going to Kalbarri whether we catch fish or not.  I hope you have a great time.

I was there in May last year

I was there in May last year - the fishing was dreadful. Spoke to a local at red bluff one arvo who said the fishing had been $hit since Christmas.

I was there in April 14 and November 14 and did really well with tailor off Witecarra so was disappointed when there last May and caught one small tailor only.

People speak of the whiting in the river but I've not managed to catch one bigger than 4 or 5 inches in all 3 visits. Tiny little bream around the boat pens as well which were a great introduction to fishing for my two kids but pretty boring for me.

Never fished frustrations or oyster reef due to access - didn't much fancy going over during the day with a rental kayak or dingy. Might consider it this time it's a shame they haven't come up with a system for early morning / late night hire usage.

Going may this year - hoping the fishing will be better and maybe 4th time lucky for a mulla. I have a 4x4 now so got a few more options. I am praying for not too big a swell and decent weather as I'm eager to smash Witecarra again which is great fun when they are on.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

I've fished there a couple of times, mainly at Wittecarra and offshore trolling for macks.  Hopefully we can do a bit of exploring, and see what turns up
