Kalbarri on a yak

Off to Kalbarri with the missus this weekend.  Anyone heard how its fishing?

Does anyone know what swell size causes difficulty getting out through the mouth?  I know the zig zag route to take to get out..

Just wondering if I should take mackie gear - would love to nail a dhu or greenback as well...

Cheers
Matt

 Deffs take the mackie gear,

Deffs take the mackie gear, when i was up there about a month ago lots of reports coming in and also there were tuna smashing bait balls a few hundred metres off red bluff. can't help you with the swell size but i was hapily sitting anchored in my yak at the edge of the rivermouth chasing tailor, and you could have easily gotten through the mouth.

red bluff

mate your best bet is to go down to red bluff and launch of there w ya yak! too much traffic at the mouth and you dont want any swell if yr going out w that there def not advisable!!! if you go to red bluff you can launch yr yak strait off the rocks there and head strait out from there and youll find good ground bottom bouncing about half mile out. if you do go out fm the mouth for tailor my advise is to head out just from chinnies point and in between the first green nav marker and the second one you can sit in there and cast safely to the foam near the rock and you should be on! the big greenies have been in spawning mode and there have been some good ones around! try stick baits theyve been getting smashed on them. But for macks def safer and more productive out from there. if you troll directly west as you leave the rocks if the macks or tuna are there youll get them strait away. the winter sea gardies are in and there has been huge bird action there. Just on light in the morning is the best and you should do okay. good luck

OMG Kalbarri in a yak??

From what I have seen over the years I certainly wouldn't be heading out on a yak. If the noahs don't get you the dolphins will. The fish up that way will tow you to Africa LOL.

You must be mad going through the river mouth on a yak. i went out on the charter on a pretty calm day and it was pretty scary getting through it. suppose if you no what your doing you should be alright. not on my list of things to do though! aha looking forward to seeing some pictures

dont listen to this lot, you dont have to take your yak through the river mouth, plenty of other options to launch,

agree with tangles - red bluff would be the best bet.

youll have a great time, as for the mackies, would be awesome to catch them on yak....its not getting towed to africa id be concerned about, more so how to subdue the bastard when you get it next to the yak that would take the skill :D

prob stand more chance of a tuna they are starting to come into the bay at the bluff there following the gars in! and there have been some big ones busting out in the early morning or the late arvo! have fun bring an epirb and please make sure you notify local VMR n sea rescue because if anything goes wrong and you dont notify them you might get into a bit of trouble and my mate percy on the ski wont be happy having to go out and get a yak in the dark! good luck bro! if its nice paddle ya yak over to jakes point and head out half mile behind the point and there is some really good bottom to get some fish on! and its a good area to troll!
