Karratha / Dampier shore based.
Submitted by Bodie on Wed, 2008-10-01 14:06
Im in Karratha at the moment, and bought up a couple rods and a box full of lures and poppers to try get out on a couple of afternoons for some fun stuff.
It seems i may not get out on a work mates boat before i head home on sunday, so thought i'd try some shore stuff.
Just wondering if anyone can give me some advice on where to go around here!!
Plenty of good looking rocky shore lines around the place, but would like to get into some fun sized GT's and maybe some queenies, or even some jacks!!!
On the woodside plant at the moment, hoping to get most of my work done today, to try free up Tomorrow arvo and friday!!! then Sat and sunday :)
Thanks lads!!

Bodie, if you head just north of the plant
to Hearson's Cove (you can access it from the road you took into the plant)you will find a few good spots on the rocks there. Just watch the tides mate.
If you are looking for a bit of fun in the evening, grab some bait and head into Dampier and try the beach to the east of the shopping centre.
I am sure Brad, Jay and co have some much better spots, but those areas were easy to access without a 4wd.

Its a nice place Bodie, Drive towards Dampier and turn right at the top of the hill when you get past Dampier Salt. Follow that road down about 5k and on the righ you will see some sign Hearsons Cove...its just befor the burrup fertilizer plant....cant miss the place.

You could just about throw a rock from wher u are
If you are driving back from the plant there will be a dirt road (it was dist last time I was there) on the left hand side. It will take you to Hearsons.

guy here said hearsons, when its low tide you have to walk a long way out. But did say there was some mangroves to one side???
Best to target the mangroves?

The tides can be a hassle
But you should be able to get out onto the rocks on either side of the cove - you might just have to do a bit of climbing.

Bodie hearsons is only
Bodie
hearsons is only fishable on high tide (or at least half tide). best to drive down the beach and behind the mangroves at the far end. Park the car and walk out on the rocks next to the mangroves. Heaps of bream and stuff hang out in the mangroves and if there's any trevors or queenies around they hang about the edges.
Either that or head along the coast at withnell bay (next to Woodside) past the boat launching area and fish off the rocks between the mangroves at high tide.
or if it's low tide the little creek area between Parker Point and the Dampier Port Authority is worth a walk
Have fun
