Lance Armstrong

Will this bloke, his team and support crew go down as the most corrupt sporting team ever. I mean this has obviously gone on for years. How many other teams are invovled? The scary thing was that one of his team mates said he come to the realisation that if you didn't take perfomance enhancing drugs you couldn't compete at that level. What a sad day in the history of sport this will be.

Doping

Mon, 2012-10-15 18:18

Main concern is that hopefully all these drug cheats at this elite level over the years as the winners of the race don't implicate Cadel in the same realm

He's a champ and far to intelligent to succumb to the temptation

Yep real battler Damo. And to beat a group of cheats shows testament to how good he really is.

 It is disappointing. Now

Mon, 2012-10-15 18:18

It is disappointing. Now when I watch the Tour de France it won't be the same because there is a good chance that some of the competitors are on drugs.

of course they're on juice

Mon, 2012-10-15 18:27

of course they're on juice ...there's lots of money involved thats the way it is...you would have to be naive to think otherwise ...the problem he has now if he admits to it , he'll purger himself and do time and then theres all the sponsor moneys etc that he may have to pay back...between a rock and hard place me thinks

Four corners @ 8.30 tonight on Channel 2 has the whole sordid story.   Everybody can't wait to spill the beans.   They're saying he'll have to repay the multi millions in winnings and sponsorships.  Good luck with that.

I think people must be realistic..

Mon, 2012-10-15 21:05

….in order to do an event as strenuous as "The Tour", you would have to take something to keep you going, and no, swisse is not enough!!!!
I'm not saying it is not possible, but look at history, all the people that have been in the top finishers have been involved in some sort of doping scandal.
I also hope that Cadel is not involved in any sort of issue, and I know he says he is clean, but so did Lance for years, and a lot of other athletes, not just cyclists, and they eventually confessed !

I wouldn't be surprised at all if most elite sports persons are, I've heard rumours about Olympic athletes also, they should make it legal and then everyone's on the same page ??

Have 2 different Olympic

Have 2 different Olympic classes. One natural and one drugged up. Sure you might see a few heart attacks in the middle of the 100m sprint but would be some interesting results.

Have a look at the wattage

Tue, 2012-10-16 06:29

Have a look at the wattage being put out by riders over the last couple of years (all riders have watt meters on their bikes).   You will note that the output is now much lower than that of some years ago suggesting that the riders are perhaps riding either clean or at least a lot cleaner.

It is a hard event to compare as it is not raced over the same track every year and too many factors (wind, hills, technology).  The wattage is probably the best way to tell.

I do have an issue with the way everyone swears that Cadel is clean.  Why is that, because he is Australian?  Because he has to 'battle ' to win a tour?  It is not like every other rider does it easy, even on the juice it is still bloody hard.  People's perceptions seem to be that if you inject yourself with EPO, HGO, or transfuse a bit of blood that they could jump on a bike and complete the TdF.  You need to be physicaly fit and at 99% to even compete, of course the drugs give you the extra 1-2% which at that level can make all the difference.

For me it is not about whether L.A. was on the gear or not, I think they all were and if that is the case he was still a superior athlete capable of doing all disciplines required (TT, climbing, sprinting, TTT,etc) better than others.  What does bring down the bloke in my estimations is that he has lied to so many.  He is still an inspiration to heaps but if he did dope, after so long portraying himself as a drugs crusader.....well that I cant swallow.  No question he was an amazing athlete (look at his return to cycling when he was clean, he finished 3rd without the support of a full team - and he was constantly being monitored during his comeback so chances are he was clean) but this does bring him down a peg.

I suppose we are living in

Tue, 2012-10-16 08:38

I suppose we are living in hope that Cadel is clean like we were all hoping that Lance was. No argument that you need to be ultra fit anyway to win races etc but cheating to get the edge is just plain filth. And to downright lie black and blue you're clean is beyond belief. The bloke should be jailed for fraud.

I'd say he will do time for perjury. Marion jones never tested positive and she did time for lying to a grand jury. I'd like to see Bradley wiggins caught, he's just an arrogant prick
