Losing fish on metals

Lost a couple of Tailors and Herrings on Twistys few days back.  Everytime they jump outta the water the treble gets unhooked.  It's rarely happened before but it's getting abit annoying now.

Tension is set right and rod is upright at all times.  It shouldn't be the hooks as well coz I've changed a set of trebles and still it happens.

Should I be doing something different?

Assist hooks. Getting the weight away from the hook is the key.

Matt would you tie the assist hook to the top ring or bottom? Doesn't the assist tangle with leader in the cast?

That's lure fishin lol I try to hold my rod down and forwards in antisapation of the inevitable jump in the shore break so you have room to pull back when they go for the leap !! Easier said than done though!!

Single octopus hooks in place of the trebels, i run hard body lures for salmon when they are running and always replace the rear trebel with this sort, 99% of hook ups are on the last of the 3 sets of trebels and this has helped bigtime in landing them for me.

Ironic though

Because when i beach fish with bait, i rig my gangs with a small trebel attatched to the last single gang. This is heaps more productive than just gangs. So i guess trebels arent so bad after all haha

I used Owner singles (dark nickle colour ones)and when a salmon/herring jump it still spits the hook.

So i reckon a short assist at the rear of the metal should do the trick.
