Lowrance waypoint removal

Hi just wondering if anyone can fill me in on process of backing up all your spots from your GPS. I have a Lowrance HDS8, I think I tried it once, and it seemed you needed a blank SD card. Put card in unit and export waypoints or something. Will that card then go into other units? I also tried to see spots on PC but it seemed you needed to download some lowrance software. I think I stumbled here to....

If anyone can tell rough easy steps it would be greatly appreciated..

I have the HDS10 which I assume is the same, go to pages, select the settings page, then select the waypoints and trails menu and export to a SD card. If you have the right software you can import your spots to something like navionics and then resave them in another GPS format to put on a different brand GPS.

Don't export to your chart card as you can stuff it and then not be able to see your charts, make sure you use a seperate card.

Hey Gib 77

The downloads to an SD card is easy. Instructions above.

In addition, there are a number of free downloads on the net that will allow you to manually create, manage, upload waypoints, routes etc. You can then not only have all of your waypoints backup up but you can plug new ones in off a chart rather than the laborious process of keying them in direct. I recently moved all of my waypoints from a Raymarine to a HDS8, over 250 marks and managed to complete the task in les than an hour and that included downloading and learning the process.

I'll have a look on my PC and drop the name of the download that I picked up into another post.

cheers

Hey Gib

The program that you need to download is called EASYGPS. Its a free download and is available from trusted sites like CNET. Download file of 4MB, install and away you go. Does all that I need to do to manage, store, create my waypoints. Good Luck.
