Mackie Balloon rig 49 strand wire knot

Hi all,

Heading off to Quobba next year, but just getting some rigs tied early as work up until going is going to be full on. I have some 49 strand 1.5mm wire bought from Taylor Marine, and some 9/0 Hooks I am going to use to make up some Mackie balloon rigs - I am having some difficulty actually tying the damn things though. I've never used 49 strand wire, only the 7 & single strand stuff. But TM had some bulk spools for a good price, so picked it up

Normally I would use a flemish eye & crimp to a treble, and then knotless knot 3 hooks, then flemish eye & crimp to a swivel. However, when I try and knotless knot the 49 Strand stuff, it does not want to play ball at all. I cannot get it twisted round the hook at all.

Any advice on how to get it tied? Not really wanting to get any more wire, as the amount of rigs I will need to make, it will be quite costly. Plus the stuff I got from TM looks like it will be quote good for up north.

Cheers

All I would do is use crimps.

My rigs used to be about 2 metres of 7 strand crimped twice and 2 ganged 12 or 14/0 tarpon.  A few lacky bands to keep the bait on if needed
