Hey guys been trawling these forums for awhile but this is my first post ^.^
Me and some mates are heading down to margaret river to do some rock climbing but I thought I'de probably wet a line at the same time.
Was just wondering what kinda fish species will be around the beaches, my first thoughts would be whiting, tailor, herring and skippy? If anyone could let me know if im on the right track would be great since I havent really fished around there before. Also would any beach produce? We're gonna be camping at Contos camp ground which has a few beaches near by that I could get to. Are there any other places which may be better keeping in mind that I probably wont hav 4wd access. Look fowarding to hearing back from you guys =D

G'day Chonga, just arrived in Dunsborough myself. Asked the guy at a local tackle shop and he advised to go to Eagle Bay for herring, skippy and whiting. Will let you know how I get on:)

Contos
Anywhere near where you are camped will produce herring, skippy, salmon if they turn the corner, sambos off Slippery or Slopey rocks or round the point from Conto Springs to Bobs Hollow, you just have to keep a close eye on the weather as the swell can be quite dangerous on the rocks when it gets up.

yeah mate you are in the
yeah mate you are in the right spot. a walk down to the beach from the camp site there will produce some fairly obvious fishing spots. just be really careful on the couple of (obvious) rock fishing spots. watch the water for at least 10 mins before you plant yourself on any slopey rocks. you'll catch any of the species you are after and maybe get a surprise at contos.

Thanks for the replies
If i think it looks kinda dangerous will have all my climbing ropes/harness with me so could try to makeshift some kinda anchor for extra saftey but tbh if the rocks seem a trecherous on the day will probably just hang round the beach. Im also kind of new to beach fishing but from what I can gather i should be looking for gutters which could possibly be indicated either by darker/lighter water or the spot between the double break in waves? and also where the waves dont break in a line is like the "mouth" of said gutters? please correct me if im wrong

you're on the money.
The perfect gutter has a break about 80m offshore. Then no waves until they reform about 30m from the tide line. A nice rip at one end and no waves at the other. Dark blue water between the waves is a nice bonus. Check the pics in this thread

That's a nice looking gutter with a bit of a deeper hole in the middle.
