I sighted a really large turtle out west of Rotto about a month or so ago, just wondering has anyone else seen them before?

Have seen two at rotto. One was a small one off in the dist and the other was a big one resting in a sand hole. Both green turtles. The big one my dive buddy had a camera so I went to get into frame so he could get a pic of it but the camera was upside down. Doh.
Swam off past me so close I could nearly touch it.

not sure what type
If I spent half as long fishing , as I do reading this bloody forum , I'd be twice the fisherman I am.

seen 100's of turtles up north, none have ever come close to a beast I saw diving off hillarys a few years ago, have no idea of the age span of turtles but this thing must've been a great grand dad. seen 2 other smaller ones off metro too mindarie and rotto.

Swanbourne
A big one was washed up on Swanbourne beach last week. Dead. Some pinga thought it'd be a good idea to hack it out of its shell and proceed to swim out the internals into the ocean.
This is why we need Whiteys!

accidently on 50lb a couple of years ago off two rocks in 40m it was the size of a pool table!! i hooked it (in the flipper) on a bottom rig and it punished me!! i had no idea what i had on but thought it might have been a big ray until it angled toward the surface after 10 minutes fortunately the hooks pulled !. cheers

yep 2 tall tales but true!!
Trolling for macks off two rocks in summer of 1999/ 2000,( a strong la nina year, jellys and nor west blowies everywere) we hooked a mack and all went well until halfway thru the fight, it really took off and screamed the reel.
Then it took ages to slowly bring in, but to our surprise right near the boat was a turtle wrapped in the line. After releasing the flapper , we then pulled in the last of the line with mack attached. The mack was opened up from gills to anal fin and stone dead, dont know if it was the turtle attacking it or what?
2nd tale, we were driving on the beach up near pipindinny, just after the claremont serial killings had occurred, and saw something white and round on the beach. We stopped and walked up to the top of a skull , with 2 eye sockets and everthing, we shit basicly and headed for the car for the dash back to the cop shop, lets have one last look someone surggested, yep you guessed it a bloody turtle skull buried up to the eye sockets in sand.
turtles are here and there watching us, que spooky music.

Big leatherback in the sound
Seen the big girl in there a few times - doesnt mind popping up next to the boat for a look.
Pretty awesome , She'd have to be the size of Ford XY Bonnet.
If everyone concentrated on the best things in life .... There would definately be a shortage of Fishing Rods !!!
