 Third rock north....trusting

Sat, 2016-04-16 06:42

Third rock north....trusting you are looking for salmon, there should be schools busting up in the sound. Just look for a large group of boats, or birds diving.

Unsure of your boat, you could follow the deep water channel north though if you were to travel 300m inside the islands the whole way up other you would be in safe water, trusting you don't draw over 2m...

As you approach....

...from the south, at a point maybe 500-600m from Rowboat Rock, there's a dirty great bommie, practically invisible on a no/low swell day. Didn't even know it was there, not on MY electronic chart anyway, missed it by about 3m. So if you're heading straight to Rowboats, where the majority of the boats and salmon normally are, slow right down through that area and keep your eyes peeled!

Other than that, pretty straight run up through the Sound, roughly ten nautical miles each way, and as swompa mentioned, quite likely to come across birds/bustups during the journey...have a distance casting outfit/lure ready to go!

We came across a school right

We came across a school right in the shipping channel. Like Auslobster said watch the birds, once you see one or two hovering above the water head straight there as it's about to happen
