Moving to Karratha - what gear do I need ?

Hi everyone,

The family and I are moving to Karratha to live for a few years.

What gear do you recommend for beach fishing and maybe small boat fishing ?

Looking for myself, pluys my 2 sons aged 10 and 12.

We don't want to spend a fortune, we're not mad fishermen or anything like that, but would like to experience the fishing as I've heard it is awesome up there.

Cheers !

for most of your fishing up

for most of your fishing up here I'd suggest a 4000 size reel preferably with a bait runner function paired to a 7 foot rod running 20lb line.  That should deal with most fish land based and tinny work. The bait feed function is a great asset up here so it's easier to live bait if you chase Barra etc.

There are a lot of places to hit up either creek or share based fishing with light gear. Plenty of smaller fish about even some GT's and queenies.

Even in the bay at Dampier along the shoreline get quite a few different species just bouncing plastics in the shallows.

Feral you up there? am coming up in a couple weeks for 4 or 5 days.Got a mate up there with a sizable boat so hopefully the weather gods are on our side and the wind is down!

 Personal after spending some

Personal after spending some months there a while back with a boat and a shack to stay at and local marks given to me I would rate it as average in general.

I wouldn't spend much on gear until you find out what you really want to chase and then gear up for that style of fishing. Definately lots to be caught there, howevere alot of knowledge is also required most of the time.

Feral, would you recommend any brands of rod and reel over any others ?
