Mulloway gurus

 Hi everyone,

Just after some advice on the mighty mulla. With the run up to the new moon I'd like to throw a line in. The weather seems like it will be super uncomfortable on the beaches Friday so I was thinking of going tonight. Is it worth it or should I fish the actual night of the new moon? Also I'm thinking of a Perth beach. In your opinion is that wise or should I be in the river or moles?

Thanks to all/any advice

Yep

Yep have confirmed a few landed from the East Perth areas, and with the new moon period happening now would expect to see a few more.
The fresh water is being a problem if you want to fish above Garret Road, but this should change quickly as the weather warms up .

Tide calculations for the river

Thu, 2016-09-29 14:13

Does anyone here have any rules of thumb equating high tide @ Fremantle to areas further up the river?

Trying to work out how to calculate roughly (within 30mins accuracy) slack tides at various points (known mully haunts) in the river but can't find the info anywhere.

Don't want everything on a plate, happy to do the maths myself and verify in the field but would like to be helped to the starting line at least. My fishing time is scarce and I want to maximize the chances per leave pass this spring / summer.

Cheers,
D80

WIllyweather has tide times and heights for numerous locations up to the causeway, up past that I'm not entirely sure

I find it

Thu, 2016-09-29 16:24

I find it very hard to calculate the tide changes up river going from tidal charts.
It depends on how large or strong the tide is on each day, and how many tides within the 24hour period.
If you get 2 high tides ( neap tides ) within a day, the water up from Guildford might not even get a chance to drop and will stay high for the whole day.
But as per average from the Fremantle tide I will add --
1 hour -- Causeway
1.5 to 2 hours -- Garret Road
2 to 2.5 hours --- Bassendean
2.5 to 3 hours --- Guilford
I always fish leading up to a tide change, and usually over a few days on the moon phases. So on the first session I take note of the actual change, then I can hone in on the exact time for the next day etc
Cheers Grant

Thanks for all the info guys. I went tonight, got one and lost one they came on the bite right on bite time with the incoming tide. Only on the chew for 15mins. I ended up going to the beach still

 Don,t be scared of fishing

Fri, 2016-09-30 05:45

Don,t be scared of fishing areas with lots of fresh water. We fish the Collie in winter and that is flowing fast with fresh. If you know where the deeper holes are thats where the mulloway are sitting in the saltier water. Don't forget salt water is heavier than fresh so the salt water will sit in these holes alot more.
