My bucket list cobia!

Ticked off a bucket list fish on a rfecent trip to Monkey Mia - always wanted to catch a cobia since i first saw them on TV.  Hooked onto this one in about 10 metres of water with a live bait.  towed the boat around for a while on 24 kg gear, max drag.  jumped clear of the water at one stage which was nerve racking but great to see.

Very happy to land it!

I had a guy on board that my son had befriend his kids at the camp, and he was just whiting fishing off the beach, so i took him out on the boat for the afternoon.  we both had caught jack shit until this came along.  he gaffed him well but didn't realise the hook dropped out while the fish was still out of the boat, so I was very happy to see it come over the side! It took quite a few short runs near the boat before we knew he was spent.  by far the absolute strongest fish I have ever encountered.  i had the drag on max and he was just doing as he pleased for the first ten minutes, including towing the boat around for a bit!

I know what you mean Cobia. When mine surfaced that's what I thought until it took off like a race car.

i have been waiting a while to see one on the end of my line, so it only took a split second to identify it. which was good because disappeared from sight again and peeled off some line before jumping clear of the water about 50 metres behind the boat!
