The New Boat

Guys i have just purchased this boat from PH sea rescue and i was wondering if anyone knows what happended to Barrington boats or the person who designed it. i also want to do a few things to it like put some trim tabs on it. just wondering what kind of trim tabs you would recommend along with an anchor electric anchor winch, and high pressure deck wash.

that is some machine, with a fuel bill to match I reckon!

Trim tabs-Bennetts are probably the most respected, even though I dont have them. Fit them yourself on an ally boat.

But Id try it first without them, as you can do most things that trim tabs do just by trimming the outboards seperately

vinesh she is 8.5 mtr with a 2.7mtr beam. JGibson it cost enough. Rob we have tried triming the motors separately and it does do a bit but with the big round hull she like to roll around and drive with a list in a following sea. also it does porpus when trying to push into the seas as the nose doesnt want to stay down. when doing the sea trails i knew this and i was thinking that i could throw a few dollars at it to try and sort it. i also found a disuse water tank in the bow which i cant find the filler for it which might also help to keep the nose down. it also has a furuno NAV net vx2 set up on it if anyone can give any tips on using it. i have a 585 but this thing is in a different league. i have alot of research to do but teh goal is to be cruising the kimberleys, dampier and the monties over the next couple of years when work permits. I took her out yesterday behind Weerdee Island and at full noise 48knots burning 166ltrs and hour and around 24 knots 45ltrs an hour. at 24knots it is a good stubbie speed with no slamming. tayransourous it would be great if you could find something out.

definitely go a set of Bennetts then, dont try and fix it with those outboard tabs.

45 an hour is pretty damn good, my two DF115's wouldnt be far off that at 22 knots.

Also if you have to park the trailer in tight places watch the tyre condition, tri-axle with a quite wide axle spacing is REALLY tough on tyres when manoevering on tarmac.

Mon, 2013-11-04 21:31

I remember that boat from when i was living in hedland 13 years ago, it was originally powered by twin 135 mercurys if i remember right and was kitted out with reytheon electronics, the old man was one of the lead skippers back then, spent a bit of time in it as a young fella!!

 yep that was it but

Mon, 2013-11-04 21:37

yep that was it but apparently with the two mercs on it, it was to light in the arse end. when they filled the front water tank up the mercs would barely be in the water hence the reason for the disconnection of the front water tank. now with the two 250's you cant keep the nose down.

It had the strakers cut off after the first few trips because it would dig in and want to broach with a folowing sea, it was a heaps better boat after they were removed!

 Hey Ash. Lenco or Bennett

Tue, 2013-11-05 05:42

 Hey Ash.

Lenco or Bennett are the two main brands if trim tabs you will find and both seem to have a good reputation. As I said to you the other day, tabs should make a bit difference.

I'll have a dig and see if I can find the fill point location. We never used the water tank so never filled it and there is a fair chance the tank may have been capped off.

Come and have a look at the lewmar anchor winch on our new rig. Seems good so far and I think it would go ok with the dinghy rack you have planned.
