The New Boat + Saturdays Catch 16/2/13

After giving the wife the sh!ts spending all my time on the internet staring at boats in the USA I finally decided to take the plunge and buy one. My deckie and I went halves and after months of looking at Seaswirls and Polars decided to go against the wifes one condition (it must have a cabin) and get a Centre Console.

These boats are used in Tournament fishing in the States and are similar to Contenders, Whitewaters, SeaVees, etc in build, design and layout. She's been out 3 times and so far we are pleased with how she handles. Also doesn't use that much more fuel than my old 5.6m Quintrex with Honda 90hp.

Boat details

Boat length 25'

Boat length overall (excluding motor): 27'

Deadrise 24.5 degrees

Beam 249cm

Fuel 681 litres

Water 132 litres

Weight:

- Boat with engine (empty) 1723kg

- Boat with trailer (empty) 2383kg

- Boat on trailer with full fuel/water tank 2999kg - based on 1lt of water = 1kg and 1lt of fuel = 0.711kg

Sun, 2013-02-17 17:38

Friggin super trawler hope you have a permit for local waters ...that is a fishing boat ... ,good size the ultimate platform the only reason I have a cabin is I take the occasional greenie when she's a bit rough at times ..I suppose your tub would have scuppers for that ...hmmm I want me one of those ...beautiful , good fish as well

I'm impressed and would also like to know, looks like a sweeet rig and exactly the type of boat I want to upgrade to in a few years.

 Nice rig. Those competitions

Sun, 2013-02-17 18:50

Nice rig. Those competitions seem to have a good following over there.

Same hull as the older contender which in turn is the same as the 23 formula under the waterline.

Haven't been able to find a bad comment about them and this is why I decided to take the chance and get one. This is only the second one into Australia.

A truly impressive looking rig, no doubt as stable as a board on the water.

Furuno all the way I see - and the results to back it all up!

From what I've seen from pics online the Contender (23 and up) seems to have a bigger console than the Competition???

Nice boat grooovy, is it new or slightly used second hand? any change left from 100K?

Bean Bags

Wed, 2013-02-20 07:23

Where did you get the waterproof bean bags from, here or the USA?. I've seen really light weight ones in photos.

I see everyone in the USA who has a CC use them for their trips out to the fishing grounds and then throw them onto the T-Top. They are smart buggers the yanks.
