New Camera

Well the FEDEX man arrived today with my new camera. The drama's with my old one have still to be resolved, but this one is more a still camera than a dedicated movie one.

Its a Panasonic DMC - FX18, fully functioned with high quality lenses. 8.1mp.

Here are a few test shots this evening, scaled down significantly to fit on the site, but you will get an appreciation for the type of fish pcs it will be capable of capturing at the Monte's next week.

another one

one more

Is it a SLR camera Andy?

Cheers.

It takes some good pics Andy.

Is this a new one you bought coz you got sick of waiting or one they sent you as a loaner?

Not an SLR

Wed, 2008-02-20 21:29

But pretty high spec standard digi. Has RAW image capability and full manual focus etc. Hopefully at 8mp it will get some great close ups of the fish and some nice clear scenery shots to share.
Plenty of artificial intelligence built in so it should take the guess work out of a lot of standard shots. Hopefully I will have plenty of time to get to know the camera well while I am away.
I haven't tested the movie capabilities yet, but they should be pretty good too. I will be taking my laptop up with me to the Monte's so I won't be constrained by memory capacities of the camera, even though I have a 2Gb high speed card in there.

They have agreed to replace the movie camera because of the noise issue, but they have stopped making the one that I had, so I have to wait until they get in stock of the lower version, which they still make.Undecided
They will be getting me another lower spec camera to make up the difference.
Therefore it might still be a few weeks before we get to see Kasey's 24kg dhuie vid.Frown

New camera

Thu, 2008-02-21 05:23

Hi all,

It seems we are all at it.

I recently replaced my old 35mm with a nice new Pentax K10D.

I have put a 4GB Sandisk Extreme card into it and at full 10mp resolution that will store nearly 900 single pics, yes that's a nine and two zeros!

It sure beats the S#7$ out of any 35mmcamera I've seen.

Where I am its winter and raining and we have no fish so my piccys are basic boring, tho I love the sunsets..............must try Aussie sometime?

Styles

From what I am told we will be doing just about every style imaginable, from billfish to squidding and everything inbetween.
There are just so many options, I guess, so it will depend on the skipper and the crew as to what we focus on.

Have a great trip Andy! Nice photos!

G'day Andy - nice photos mate! (Laughed at Oddy's comment on the pyramid - briefly thought it was one myself).

I purchased a non SLR digital myself a while ago (also with RAW) and have spent some time 'messing with it'.

Sounds like you had some dramas there too mate, hope they get sorted!

Love the colours. Blow it up and frame it. Pay a fortune at the galleries for a pic like that.

Montes

Thu, 2008-02-21 17:54

Hi Andy we have been watching the weather from between Exmouth and Montes all day,  and yes it wasnt looking to good this morning for departure on sunday,  but it has all changed,  looking really good now,  bernie and the rest of the crew are really looking forward to it,  and the game fish should be really biting after the cyclone.

Im sure you are going to get some great photos of the Montes with your new camera,  look forward to seeing them.

We had some strong winds the other night with the eye of Nic passing just 5ks of shore from Coral Bay,  no damage and everyone is safe, few trees down and one shed.

Montes

Thu, 2008-02-21 18:25

Bernie reckons with the weather looking so good,  he might go out wide again and look for another Broadbill Swordfish on this Montes trip.  There is another Fish Wrecked member going on the trip,  Nathan Hume,  he is also flying up to Exmouth from Perth,  will be watching out for you Andy.

Regards
