Photo of new rescue vessel for Whitfords Sea Rescue being built by Kirby Marine. Not much to look at yet but is same design as the fisheries vessels. Will be 11.3m in length and be powered by twin 350hp V8 Yamahas. Top speed of 52kts. Has been 2 years in the planning and expect to be completed by September. Will provide ongoing photos as they are received.

Layout
We have spent a lot of time in designing the layout of the cabin area in relation to positioning of the electronics etc. Happy to send you some pics once vessel completed to give you ideas. Rob Kirby is very good in assisting with the design etc. Once vessel completed happy to take you or any of your members for a trial run if you are in Perth.

The package we are aiming for is 2 x 10 inch screens,Flir, radar, GPS, sounder and auto pilot plus the usual radios. With the exception of the FLIR all the other gear is Furuno.

Keeping
We are keeping the old boat as a back up inshore boat much to the disgust of a few people round town who would dearly love to buy it.

Cat
Never even considered a cat, too many faults with them. Most of the rescue groups over east are getting rid of theirs as well and going for the Naiads.
We took Exmouths 9.5 metre Air rider for a test run and VRMA's 6.8 metre Naiad and that was enough to make a choice. In our opinion the Naiad was the way to go.Would have loved to go 14.6 diesel shaft drive or the same as Whitfords 11.5 but costs were out of our ballpark.
