Yes have that article and
Yes have that article and will keep it so that we are clear. I understand from the article that we do not need our boat fishing licence until next March 2010. Also from Dec 16 2009 we will need to carry a release weight on board our boat. We do not have one yet as we do not generally target Dhufish.

Homemade
I dont believe there will be any problem with a homemage release weight Body.
As long as you can demonstrate there is something onboard for this purpose then I believe you will be fine.
There is nothing mentioned anywhere that I can find that they have to be a certain weight or design.

Is it enviro friendly if the dhuie is still stuck on the brick at the bottom of the ocean? lol.
Might need to carry a few bricks too. "Sir, are you a bricklayer" "No, just a responisble angler".

Believe me
when it comes to the crunch and someone is about to be prosecuted for not carrying a release device onboard the question will be asked as to what constitutes a release device that satisfies the regulating authorities and when/where that information made available to to the public.

I think officers will have
I think officers will have an idea of whats acceptible, but it would be good to see a bit more concrete legislation, just so theres something to fall back on (though, hopefully the people checking will use a bit of common sense)

Common sense
Legislators, enforcing officers and lawyers. Sometimes I've seen more common sense in a bowl of cornflakes.

Fellas who come out on my
Fellas who come out on my boat can vouch for my home made release weight.
100% effective, and not one has been lost.
The tfing i found with the proper release weights is that they are too heavy for releasing under size fish. I surely think if you can slow the rate a fish drops back to the ocean floor the better the chance of survival.
So with mine , i can vary what size lead attached to it, and the release to the bottom is much slower.
just dhu it

So... does the change of bag
So... does the change of bag limits apply to areas outside the West Coast Bioregion? Like a mixed bag limit of 2 demersal scalefish or personal limit of 1 dhufish etc. ?
It states that the boat limits of 2 dhufish is only for the West Coast Bioregion but it doesn't say wether the other limits are for only that region or whole state... I head down to Albany often to fish so I'm just wondering if the new limits apply there also. The table of the new limits on the fish.wa.gov.au site is title West Coast Bioregion so...

A release weight ,if you
A release weight ,if you don't have go frigin by one ,you wouldn't think twice about that new rod and reel,to pull them up so i think a few bucks for a r/w to get them down again is money well spent. fisheries being irrisponsible,if your still not sure then get on the web sight or give them a ring .as going fishing for demersals during the ban or heading out after the ban not knowing the new rules mmmmmmmmm thats irrisponsile.

Ah paul your voice of reason
Ah paul your voice of reason and common sense. So you cheapskates out there go buy one. what would be responsible is a hook on the upside of the release weight so you can bait up on the way down.

the release weights can be
the release weights can be purchased at most tackle stores so there is no excuse, Ryan has them as well as The Tackle Shack , a few $ spent now is better than getting a fine or being stopped from even hitting the water is better, as i feel there will be inspectors at the ramps checking
