Ha ha you've got to be kidding. Anyone who doesn't take time to secure their boat doesn't deserve one.

Be careful what you assume
I ended up exactly like that on Dampier Drive. Came back from fishing the Islands and decided after "securing" the boat to have a drink in Hampton Harbour Club.
Then jumped in the car and proceeded home. Suddenly the boat just slipped off the trailor. WTF.
What transpired was that little shits had snuck around the parking area and undid partially all the bolts, and to top it off cut the spectra winch rope partially. For short trip I use a strong shackle, the usual spectra tight and a securing screw bar (cant remember the correct name but the one with a hook on one side, and a ring on the other that you tighten by winding the middle). This was unhooked by the culprits, the bolt in the U shakle unscrewed and spectra cut??? It was going to fail and did.
I didnt realise it at the time but the insurance company bloke that flew up showed me it all. I knew the 2 bolts was lose and blamed myself, but when he showed me the end off the spectra I was gobsmacked that some low life would do this.

You're right Crasny I
You're right Crasny I shouldn't assume , but seems to becoming more of a common occurance. Something akin to what Beeroclock was talking about with behaviour at boat ramps. But yeah not a nice thing to happen.

No worries mate
Here's my story link. To say I was embarrased was/still is an understatement. Thanks to some nice lads (including Pale Ale from here) got it on the trailer again and being Alli only scratches and a broken gearbox on the Old Johno 115, insurance paid and I repaired. Got a new Etec instead because the motor was called written off by the assesor, but certainly wasn't.

I have got into the habit of
I have got into the habit of checking my trailer before taking my boat out of the water as more than once some drop kick has unhooked the pin from my trailer and thought its a big joke. If my trailer is attached to the car and left, I check it! If my boat on the trailer is left for any period attached to my car I check it!
Unfortunately there are plenty of idiots out there who think it's cool to tamper with other peoples property.
I also have heard of wheel nuts being undone on cars and boat trailers as well.

I saw this boat just beforehand, remember thinking to myself that is a heavy boat to be towing behind a sedan (was a commodore or falcon)

Got to feel sorry
I have to feel sorry for anyone that ends up in a situation like that. A boat on its backside on the bitumen is a sorry sight.

From looking at the position
From looking at the position of the boat, it looks as if the driver has accelerated from stop (probably reasonably hard given the cross traffic that time in the morning) and pulled the trailer out from under the boat. Might not be much damage to the boat

I saw a 6m boat on the road
I saw a 6m boat on the road at the top of the Kwinna Fwy off ramp to Armadale road a while back and the winch cable was still attached to the boat. I didn't see the chain and shackle as I slowly went past the trailer so I'm not sure if he had only relied on the winch to hold the boat to the trailer. Very embarrising for him and his mates.

Wouldnt wish it on ya worst enermy!
Ive gone to put the boat in the water a few times to find the D shackle and chain not secured! so the whole trip there and possible home from the previous trip was done with the only anchore being the ratchet latch on the winch, these would wear with fatigue over time so considered myself lucky!
Can only think its being in a rush on the return from the previous trip and havent connected the shackle rushing to get the boat out on a busy day! I think every thing with boating and being on the water needs to be planned and not rushed!
