opinions - WRL vs painted crays

Off to Steep Point next weekend (Yay!)
Taking a cray pot. Hope to catch some western rock lobsters. (Yum yum). I expect I may also get some painted crays. If I have room in my bag limit (highly likely) are they worth keeping?

Won't
You won't get any painteds in your pots, but hopefully you may get some diving.
If you can bring home your bag of WRL I'd go that route, if you need to top up the bag, grab some painteds.

just my opinion
its just my opinion but I reacon painted crays are not a patch on wrl and they are best used for blue bone bait , or at the best pickled if they are to be eaten

I think Painted are
I think Painted are herbivores and WRL are carnivores..
Hence part of the difference in taste..
Painteds aren't to bad butterflied with salt, pepper and garlic butter and oven roasted but pickling is best.
WRL is NUM NUM!!!

That explains BJs
That explains BJs explanation as to why you don't get them in pots! I understand now. I won't be diving for them so I just have to do with WRL! Like I mind about that, NOT.

I think they are
I think they are predominently herbivores, but I have seen them eating fish scraps and have caught them on line.
They arent generally encountered in pots as they cant fold their feelers back as tightly as the WRL and cant get into the pot.
By painted you mean Ornate?

Taste test
The tastiest of them all is the southern or fighter cray, then the western or red then last of all the painteds
