Pacific fishing trip - aka honeymoon!!

Hi all,

I recently became engaged (after falling and hitting my head and drinking profusely - comiserations accepted) and are looking at destinations for a honey moon around May 2011.  Fiji was sugested and I have been assured by the wife to be that I am allowed to go on a fishing charter whilst there (this is likely to change of course).  I would like to also look at other locations i.e pacfic islands and am seeking advice as to any particular destintaion to go to.

I would like to go out on a reasonbly inexpensive charter (would be happy with Tuna, trevallies and the like but not opposed to catch and releasing my first billfish either) Wouldn't also be fussed if the destination also had opportunities to fish from the shore (lures and soft plastics etc) for an hour or so once in a while.  The wife to be would also have to be catered for - she gets sea sick in glass bottomed boats but wouldn't mind snorkeling and excells in sitting on beaches, having massages and drinking cocktails/champas (hopefully whilst watching me fish). The destination is preferably to be nowhere near a dress, shoe or handbag shop (this will destroy my fishing budget).

Have looked at Vanuatu and currently liking what I see with the Cook Islands.  Thought I would post this up and see if anyone else has any suggestions from experience or word of mouth..

Cheers

Paul

go to Vanuatu. It will work

go to Vanuatu. It will work out cheaper than Hamilton and nicer with more things to do. Hamilton is good for a few days but then we ran out of things to do, plus accomodation is expensive.
I haven't been to the Cook Islands but a friend has honeymooned there and wished they didn't becuase it was very expensive and they could have done the same things at any other Pacific Islands.

Lord Howe Island>> I have plenty of times but not quite got there yet. Has a bit of everything. Snorkelling, surfing, Land based game, charter fishing, Neds beach fish feeding, inside lagoon fishing sight casting, hiking, bike riding. it goes on and on. Could easily kill a few weeks there>>

Vanuatu

I went there on my X honeymoon. Didnt get to fish (wink wink) but had a great scuba dive and the sports fish seen diving blew me away.

I am sure like New Cal that there would be some awesome GTs around there, and I saw dinosuar trout on the dive, aswell as huge ciqueterra containing red bass by the truck load. And this dive was just off Vila.

Love to go back and throw a few poppers and plackies around there!

Cheers for all the info, Looks like Fiji or Vanuatu is on the cards, with also look into LHI.  Agree with Lucky Tim as looking more into the Cook Islands it appears most of the accomodation is either very budget type or very expensive (when compared to Fiji etc).

Thanks again

Paul
