PE3 Jigging rod
Submitted by Matt Latham on Fri, 2010-06-25 08:01
I am relatively new to jigging and looking to buy a rod in PE3 class. Will likely be using it around Perth and the NW of WA as well as the Coromandel
coast in NZ.
My budget is about $500 and I would be pairing the rod up with a Saragosa 8k.
At this stage I am looking at the Hearty Rise Deep Blue 55, the JM 200S or maybe the Smith AMJ 56L. It would be great to hear opinions from anyone who has used these rods. Keen to know the pros and cons of the faster action rods vs the parabolic action of the JM.
Will be using jigs up to 200gms in less than 100m targeting a range of species.
Would be very interested in anyones suggestions.
Cheers,
Matt

The gosa is a very big reel
The gosa is a very big reel for PE3? You could get away with A daiwa 3500-4000 size for that application.

Yeah, I have got a Sol 4000
Yeah, I have got a Sol 4000 which I might use with the rod as well depending on the need for line capacity.

deep blue
I have a deep blue mate, not in that model but im happy with the rod. Looks the goods and performs quite nicely. Check out oceanside though if you get some time, they have a great range and should have something there to fit your budget and line class.

8000s far to big for PE3 and the JM200S
8000s far to big for PE3 and the JM200S alright, it wouldnt be balenced very well, the Jigging Master 200S is more suited to smaller reels, they are a great rod the boys at Oceanside will be able to help you with one.
This is a picture of me with mine early in the year at the Coromandel , I just run a 5000 stella on mine and its a great we PE3 setup, you wouldnt want a reel much larger than that on one as you can see its only a small stick.
