penn fishing reel. problem

ive got a old penn applause 6000 fishing reel its an old favorite of mine the drag is not holding on it at all are these repairable or any idea what mite be the problem with it im no genius with these things so any help would be great thanks

Undo the drag knob on top and pull out the washers have a look at the exploded drawing of the reel and check it is all in the right places and clean the applause has felt washers. failing that a decent tackle store should be able to fix it for you i have a 6000 and an 8000 that have been good to me after being absolutely hammered and fished above what they were designed for. if it is unrepairable pm me and i will make an offer on the spool

Hey mate, you try contacting Jack Erskine in regards to upgrading the drag on your reel, not too sure if they do carbontex specifically for the old applause but there should be some that will fit. http://www.jackerskine.com/hitech_carbontex.html

Applause are a great reel
Applause are a great reel for the price. Not sure you can get the carbontex drag washers though, I think only for the HT100 drags on the Sargus and spinfishers???

Carbontex can be made for any reel, will just cost a bit extra. But by that time it might be worth just getting a new spool

drag repair....
Dont worry about carbontex. The large Applause actually comes with decent washers, I dont know exactly what they are but very similar to HT-100.
It probably just need a clean out and re-grease with the right drag grease.
If you can bring it in and we'll try to sort it out for you.
