Please tell me what boat I want?

Ok, after a week of holidays, I have come back in dreaming mode and have been looking at boats it for the first time in my life, I don't know what boat I want.

Guidelines are as follows:

Trailerable and beach launchable

around 6-7m

Forward V berth for overnighters

suitable for diving and fishing.

Now personally, I am a fan of Aluminium boats weight wise, and was thinking of something like the mass produced pressed hulls rather than the plate boats simply due to the weight thing again?

Surely you lot could tell me what I want?

Thanks

Muppet what the price of yours. I hate the commodore as it is a cheap and nasty finish compared to the C/Craft and the Haines.

find your self a Trailcraft about 5.8-6.4, great first boat. Tough cheap and you can take it anywhere if the outboard is ok.

dunno if Id bother with a hardtop, the rag top is pretty solid anyhow and folds down easily for storage and towing

But if you sniff around you can find a good one on the great Ibeam Trailcraft trailer for a good price

Thanks for the info Rob. As i noted, the budget is Imaginary at this point, and will become realistic after a kitchen renovation, and a new car for the wife.

Does anyone have an idea what a similar sized plate boat would weigh in comparison to the pressed hulls?

The trailcraft is really a plate boat but with pressed sides, the plate thickness is similar (5/4mm) so there wont be much di8fference in weight there

My old 5.8 Trailblazer, F115 on dual axle trailer no fuel or anything other than safety gear 1500kg on the weighbridge

very confused John, because i'd never dream of owning a ali boat anyway.

SOOOOO a 660 Trailcraft M.D edition or a big Quinnie offshore series would be the go if you want a pressed hull.

I'm with you there. Glass all the way. All the quality brewers put their product in glass. Good enough for them it's good enough for me.

boats

ive  had both a new quintrex 620 offshore (millenium hull)(6.2m)(08 model) and a new 660 trailcraft sportscab(09) model and they are both good boats the quintrex rode a bit smoother in chop but the trailcraft feels ultra safe in a big sea and has more room, if you  look hard enough you can get a real bargain and both make a good honest boat.  cheers

Thanks for the info, and the offers of boats for sale. My preference of Aluminium comes from playing a 18m aluminium yacht for the past 20 years, in all sorts of conditions, and even longer in Aluminium tinnys. I know that they are are at the opposite end of the spectrum but considering what they have both been through, I have a great deal of confidence in Aluminium boats and would prefer to be in one if the shit hit the fan, over any other build material.

With regards to glass boats, my father and I rebuilt a 17 foot Gardian and a 19 foot Penguin from cabin boats to centre consoles, and have spent time on Cruise Craft, and a 21 foot trophy in recent years. By no means do i think that they are bad boats, though I did notice some things that i didnt like on them, as most people would have with different boats. it is purely my opinion.

As noted early on, this boat suggestion is purely a dream. It needs to come after a new car for the wife, and a kitchen renovation, so unless lotto comes up pretty soon, this could be years away. The intrem boat will have to be my 3.95 Allycraft tinny, or if i can find a few spare grand, I will buy an old glass boat and turn it into a CC. You never know, i may even build one myself one day...but for that i would need to learn how to weld.

Thanks for the input and feel free to add more if you know of something better.

Cheers
