As this is my first crack at it. To be honest I have been happy to go out and see that they are still there let alone have crays in them.
So far we have caught around 30 - 35.
I think a lot has to do with length of rope. There are minefields out there with 10-15+m of rope at the surface and im sure some of them will get cut.
Looking forward to the run!
My one and only pot went missing from out of mindarie a couple of weeks ago. Lots of weight in it so it didn't move. Either the rope got cut, or someone pulled it.... :(
When I worked at Geraldton boat builders (20 years ago) and had to do maintenance on pro-boats on the hard stands, 1 of the jobs the owner/skipper had me to do was adjust and sharpen the rope cutting device on the prop-shaft, this may have been a safety thought, but I always wonder how many ropes and floats they would cut-off when heading out in the early morning darkness or other ropes along there pot line. Don't know if they still have rope cutters.
I'm a rec cray fisherman ok, but I can just imagine the trouble you could find yourself in if you are a pro working in close to a reef with a decent swell running and you find a pot close to yours with 15-20 metres of rope floating about. If you get fouled up on the rope you suddenly have 1M plus boat at risk of floundering on the reef because excess pot rope fowled your boats prop and stalled the engine.
I don't think pros go around deliberately cutting of ropes on anyone's pots but precautions for preserving life and boat must be taken.

Have had the pots in the 30's for over a week and done well, but will try the shallows this weekend.
Hoping the whites run soon.

Nothing worse than a pot
Nothing worse than a pot thief/raider.
Will be doing some scooping this weekend, weather permitting, Frenchman's Bay, Albany.
Not sure if any blue swimmers are around yet.
Got one 17cm buck last week after about 30mins.

They all have floodlights on
They all have floodlights on the front for spotting floats, but the ones most likely to get the chop are those too lazy to shorten up their ropes.
I also worked at the same place, maybe a little before you!

Imagine if you are in close and you foul a pot rope
