Prawning

Just after a bit of general info here. Searched the forums and read as much info as I could before posting.
So I fish in the swan a lot, go freshwater fishing, crabbing, marooning etc and was looking for something different to try.
Is prawning without a boat or diving worth it? I read that winter seems to be the best time after rain but can you still get them in summer? It'll be primarily in the swan with a hand-held net but also down south around Australind.
I'm not looking to get tonnes of them etc. just want something a bit different but also don't want to completely waste my time if its the wrong time of year and/or extremely hard to get them from the shore.

You need to dive for kings around the coombe im mossie bay, or scoop them from east freo on an outgoing tide at night/
The western school prawn is less abundant, but you can dab net about a dozen or so in an hour, but most will be pregnant or too small. I throw both back, as I am a prawnwatcher.

Diving in summer lower reaches is fair to ok with hauls of 1-2 kgs of King prawns still achievable. As the water warms up have found prawns do thin out and get a bit deeper...
Plenty of big blues however to keep you entertained whilst down there if you can multitask.
